Cortez Traylor

May 28, 1978 — August 23, 2026

In loving memory of Cortez Traylor, who was born on May 28, 1978, in Kansas City, Missouri, and departed this life peacefully at home on August 23, 2026, after bravely facing an ongoing illness. Cortez was a source of light and joy to everyone who knew him, known for his infectious sense of humor and his ability to bring laughter to any room he entered. Cortez was the beloved son of the late Sharon and Larry Traylor, who no doubt welcomed him with open arms in the afterlife. He leaves behind a family who cherished him deeply: his devoted wife, Luciana, whom he affectionately called Luci. Cortez and Luci's love story began in their childhood neighborhood, blossomed into high school sweethearts, and culminated in a beautiful marriage on Valentine's Day in 2001. Together, they built a loving family and shared a life filled with unforgettable memories. He was a nurturing father to his five children: Kiara, Daijhana, Heaven, Cortez Jr., and Lamir, and a proud grandfather to six grandchildren, all of whom were his greatest joy. Cortez was also a dedicated coach and mentor, sharing his passion for basketball with young athletes after his retirement from a distinguished military career. His influence extended beyond the court as he taught life lessons through the game he loved. Cortez found peace and happiness in the simple pleasures of life, such as fishing, staying active in the gym, and enjoying lively nights out. However, the time spent with his family was what he treasured most. His generous spirit and love for life were apparent to all who knew him, and his legacy of kindness and joy will be carried on by his family and friends. A service to celebrate Cortez's life will be held on August 29, 2026, at 12:00 PM at the City of Truth Church in Raytown, MO. Cortez's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported him in his final days, ensuring that his last memories were filled with love and warmth. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Cortez's honor. They express their deep appreciation for all the love and support received during this difficult time. Cortez's family offers a special message of thanks: "Thank you to everyone who contributed to helping him in the end. If it weren’t for his family, he wouldn’t have had the best last memories." Cortez Traylor's memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love and laughter he so generously shared during his time with us.
