With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Cortez, a cherished husband, devoted father, and beloved community member. Born on May 24, 1994, in West Chicago, Cortez left this world too soon on July 15, 2026, at the age of 32. His departure as an innocent standby leaves a void in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Cortez was a beacon of love and kindness, known for his unwavering support and compassion. He was a man who was always there when you needed him, offering a comforting word or a helping hand, embodying the spirit of generosity and empathy in every aspect of his life. His gentle soul touched many, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. He proudly served his country for eight years, demonstrating the same dedication and commitment that he brought to all his endeavors. Cortez was also a devoted member of the West Point Baptist Church, where his faith and fellowship were sources of strength and community. Cortez's legacy of love continues through his surviving family: his beloved wife, Cherie, and their three cherished children. Though his family will miss him dearly, they carry forward the values and warmth he instilled in their lives. Cortez was predeceased by his six sisters and four brothers, a testament to the closeness and love of his family. A service to honor and celebrate Cortez's life will be held on July 25, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the West Point Baptist Church, located at 3566 S Cottage Grove Ave, Chicago, IL 60653. Family and friends are invited to come together to share memories, offer condolences, and find solace in the community that Cortez embraced so wholeheartedly. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Cortez's memory to a charity or organization of your choice, reflecting his spirit of giving and his commitment to making the world a better place.
