Corrine Jourdan
June 5, 1933 — June 27, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude that we celebrate the life of Corrine Jourdan, who peacefully departed this world on June 27, 2026, at the age of 93, in the comforting care of LaGrange Hospital. Born on June 5, 1933, in Lexington, Mississippi, Corrine was a beacon of love, wisdom, and community spirit throughout her remarkable life.
Corrine was the beloved daughter of the late Walter and Mary Johnson. She was preceded in death by her cherished siblings Roberta Johnson, Juanita Johnson, Geneva Hollins, and Cleotha Johnson, as well as her devoted husband, Gilbert Jourdan, with whom she shared 65 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life rich in love and companionship.
Her legacy lives on through her daughter, Melinda, her granddaughters Ashile and Jocelyn (Angelo), and her great-granddaughter, Arielle. Corrine is also survived by her siblings Bertha, Bernice, and Adlean, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who were touched by her kindness and generosity. Her church family and extended community of friends will forever cherish her memory.
Corrine's journey was marked by her deep commitment to education and community service. After graduating from Ambrose High School in 1949, she pursued a career as an assistant teacher at St. Joseph School in Chicago. Her passion for nurturing young minds extended beyond the classroom as she volunteered extensively, teaching life skills through the Summer Youth Program and actively participating in church activities.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a devoted member of St. Joseph Church and later Our Lady Help of Christians. When the latter merged with St. Martin De Porres, Corrine continued to foster meaningful connections, forming bonds that transcended church relations. She remained an active member of St. Martin De Porres, now St. Simon of Cyrene, until her health began to decline.
Corrine possessed an indomitable spirit and a "gift for gab," sharing her wealth of knowledge and wisdom with anyone fortunate enough to cross her path. Her quick wit and humor brought light to many conversations, and her love of sewing, reading, and engaging in rich discussions enriched the lives of those around her. Whether playing solitaire on her phone or watching game shows, Corrine found joy in life's simple pleasures.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to all who have offered their love, support, and prayers during this time. As Corrine often said, "Be Blessed By the Best and Pray for the Rest."
Her spirit will forever remain in our minds and hearts, and her legacy of love and service will continue to inspire all who knew her.
