In Loving Memory of Cornelius Phillips Jr. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cornelius Phillips Jr., affectionately known to many as "POP," who left us on July 16, 2026, after a brief illness at Bayhealth Medical Center in Milford, Delaware. Born on August 10, 1953, in the quaint town of Lewes, Delaware, Cornelius was the beloved son of Cornelius Phillips Sr. and Addie Lee (Hargett) Phillips. He was predeceased by his parents, Cornelius and Addie Phillips, his maternal grandmother Mabel Phillips, his paternal grandmother Jessie Mae McBynum, and his dear son-in-law Kenneth Richardson. His legacy continues through his devoted daughters, Dana M.L. Phillips and Natalie N. Phillips, and his cherished grandchildren, Joniyah D. Motley, Justin Phillips, and Jada Phillips. Cornelius was also blessed with a great-grandson, Jakhi A. Phillips, He leaves behind a host of cousins, relatives, and dear friends who will miss him deeply. Cornelius was a proud alumnus of Sussex Vocational Technical Center, graduating with the class of 1971. With a passion for education, he went on to attend Delaware State College, now known as Delaware State University, from 1971 to 1973, majoring in Education. His career was built on hard work and dedication, spending many years as a laborer and machine operator for various poultry companies in lower Sussex County. A devoted Philadelphia Eagles fan, Cornelius's enthusiasm for his team was infectious. His home was a testament to his unwavering support, adorned in Eagles green and memorabilia. Sundays during football season were sacred, spent cheering for his team with a fervor that inspired all who knew him. In tribute to his spirited fandom, his memorial service will be themed to reflect his pride for the In his later years, he could often be found at Wawa, making daily visits, or taking the 301 bus to Wilmington to visit his daughter Dana and son-in-law Kenny, or stopping by his cousin Ann's place in Dover. He would make his daily calls to his cousin Gloria in Kansas multiple times per day.He treasured the moments spent with his daughter Nikki, who would come from Maryland to spend time with him and visit the graves of PopPop Neal and MomMom Addie. Though he has left this world, Cornelius Phillips Jr.'s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. As we come together to celebrate the life of Cornelius, let us remember his vibrant spirit, his unwavering loyalty, and the love he shared with all who were fortunate enough to know him. May his soul find peace, and may his memory be a blessing to us all.
