It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Constance R. Thiel, affectionately known as Connie, on May 23, 2026, just five days shy of her 84th birthday. Connie passed away peacefully at Medilodge of Midland, surrounded by the love of her closest friends.
Born on May 28, 1942, in Grand Blanc, Michigan, to the late Robert and Norma Thiel, Connie was a beacon of warmth, intelligence, and kindness. From a young age, she exhibited a passion for learning and an unyielding curiosity about the world. She graduated from Grand Blanc High School in 1960, before pursuing her love for the German language at the University of Michigan, where she earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees.
Connie dedicated her life to education, shaping young minds with her knowledge and passion for learning. She found her calling as a beloved school teacher in both Holland and Midland, Michigan, where she instilled in her students not only the principles of language but also the virtues of kindness and understanding.
Outside of her professional life, Connie was a vibrant member of her community. A faithful member of the United Church of Christ in Midland, she sang joyously in the choir, sharing her beautiful voice with all who had the pleasure of hearing it. She also lent her talents to the Midland Chorale, where her contributions were cherished.
Connie was a woman of many interests, embracing both the competitive and the compassionate aspects of life. She was an avid bowler, participating in the Midland teachers' bowling league, and enjoyed the serene challenge of a round of golf. Her love for animals was legendary, particularly her affection for cats. Over the years, Connie rescued many feline friends, providing them with the love and care they so richly deserved.
Connie leaves behind a legacy of love and friendship, survived by her close friends Jan Hartman, Donna Corrente, and Keri McDonald, who were like family to her. Her friends wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Medilodge of Midland for their wonderful and loving care of Connie during her time there.
In honoring Connie's memory, donations can be made to the Midland Humane Society, reflecting her lifelong dedication to the welfare of animals.
Connie's life was a testament to the power of education, the strength of community, and the importance of compassion. Her warmth, wisdom, and love will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we bid farewell to a remarkable soul, we take comfort in the knowledge that her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. Rest in peace, dear Connie. Your song will be sung for generations to come.
