Connie Lucas, a beloved daughter, sister, mother, and friend, passed away on October 30, 2026, at the age of 64. Born on August 31, 1962, in the serene hills of Grundy, Virginia, Connie was the cherished daughter of the late Don Wes and Margaret Ratliff. She was the loving sister of Donna Childress and her husband, Willie, and a devoted mother to her daughter, Ericka Lucas. Connie's life was a testament to kindness, love, and the enduring bonds of family. Connie shared a beautiful marriage with her late husband, Rick Lucas, Together, with their cherished daughter, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and wonderful memories. Connie's educational journey began at Grundy High School, followed by her studies at Southwest Virginia Community College. She carried her love of learning throughout her life, nurturing a passion for reading, listening to music, and writing. She wrote several grants that were approved for disabled veterans which purchased the materials to build ramps and docks at various points of interest for fishing enthusiasts. Her creative spirit and thirst for knowledge were hallmarks of her character. A devoted member of the Garden Creek Church of Christ, Connie was a woman of deep faith. Her commitment to her church community was unwavering, and she found joy in serving others. Her beautiful smile and gentle demeanor left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Connie is predeceased by her parents, Don Wes and Margaret Ratliff, her husband, Rick Lucas, and her beloved grandparents, Charlie and Nettie Hagerman and Dewey and Corria Ratliff. In addition to her daughter and sister, she leaves behind special aunts, uncles, and cousins, who will forever cherish her memory. A service to honor and celebrate Connie's life will be held on November 7, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Little Prater Church of Christ in Grundy, Virginia. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a remarkable woman whose life was a testament to love and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Garden Creek Church of Christ, reflecting Connie's enduring commitment to her faith and community. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
