Newton, Iowa—The world lost a truly remarkable soul on July 9, 2026, as Connie Kitto Chapman passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by loved ones, after bravely enduring complications from a stroke. Born on May 21, 1953, in the heart of Newton, Iowa, Connie was a beacon of warmth and kindness whose presence enriched the lives of everyone she encountered. Connie was the beloved daughter of the late Arthur "Bud" Chapman and Winifred Chapman. She grew up in a lively household with her siblings, forming bonds that would carry through her entire life. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Lonnie, and her sisters Michelle and Cindy, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Surrounded by family, Connie's life was filled with the warmth of her husband of 47 years, Scott Kitto, who stood by her through thick and thin, building a beautiful life together. Their union was blessed with two wonderful children, Wahnita Lahmon (David) and Steven Kitto. Connie's heart expanded with the arrival of six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, each a testament to her enduring love and devotion. Connie's life was a tapestry woven with threads of faith, family, and community. A devout Christian, her spirituality was the guiding light that shaped her actions and interactions with others. She never met a person she didn't like—a testament to her boundless kindness and accepting nature. Her commitment to service was reflected in her honorable time spent in the Marines, where she developed a strong sense of duty and camaraderie. These values permeated her life, influencing her relationships and the way she approached her many interests. Among her passions, Connie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid enthusiast of raising and handling pigeons and chickens, finding peace and purpose in their care. Fishing was another of her treasured pastimes, providing her with moments of tranquility and reflection. Connie is survived by a large and loving family: her husband Scott; her children, Wahnita and Steven; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her siblings—Linda Kohler, Art Chapman (Cathy), Denisa Davis (Chris), Alicia Eakins (David), Alaina Gibson (David), Mark Chapman (Melissa), Tomasina Allen (Brian), Theodora Wood (Kenny), Michael Chapman (Stacy), Mitchell Chapman, Jason Chapman (Bobbie), and Jeremy Chapman (Stacy). Each one carries forward her legacy of love and compassion.
