It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude that we announce the passing of our beloved Commodore Dewey Gallup Jr., who left this world on September 25, 2026, after a long illness. Born on September 4, 1945, in Lismore Louisiana, Dewey was a man of immense kindness, strength, and love, whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Dewey was the cherished son of the late Commodore Dewey Gallup Sr. and Flora Eloise Gallup. He was predeceased by his parents, his beloved sons, David and Stephen Gallup, his brothers Alvin Eugene Gallup and John Emory “Jack” Gallup, and his sister Opal Virginia Wiley. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Norma Gallup, and his sisters, Catherine Ruth Wilson and Nila Faye Mount, who will forever honor his memory.
A proud veteran, Dewey served his country with distinction in the United States Navy from September 23, 1964, to September 19, 1968. His commitment and sacrifice are remembered with deep respect and gratitude. His service was a testament to his unwavering dedication and love for his country.
Dewey was a man who found joy in the music that filled his life. His talent with the guitar brought happiness not only to himself but to everyone who had the privilege of hearing him play. His love for music was matched only by his passion for the great outdoors. Dewey enjoyed hunting and spending time in nature, where he found peace and beauty. These simple joys were a constant source of happiness and created countless cherished memories for his family and friends.
A service to celebrate Dewey's life will be held on October 10, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Wiley Family Cemetery, located at 1327 Hwy 906, Monterey, Louisiana. Family, friends, and all who knew Dewey are invited to join in honoring his remarkable life.
The Gallup family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nursing and care staff at the Columns Nursing Home in Jonesville, Louisiana, as well as Enhabit Hospice, and individuals Marley, Abby, and a very special volunteer, JoElla, for their compassionate care and support during this difficult time.
