It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Colin Yates, a cherished husband, devoted father, beloved grandfather, and dear friend to many. Colin passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025, at the age of 74, following a short illness. Born on October 11, 1950, in Manchester, Colin was the treasured son of Olive and Arthur Yates.
Colin's journey through life was marked by an infectious love of life that touched everyone around him. His laughter and warmth were a beacon to those fortunate enough to know him. A true son of Manchester, he carried the spirit of his birthplace wherever he went, always proud of his roots.
In his pursuit of knowledge, Colin excelled academically, graduating with a degree in Natural Sciences from Trinity Hall. His passion for education led him to complete his Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at Manchester in 1972. Colin's dedication to learning was not just a personal pursuit; it was a gift he shared generously as an inspiring teacher and mentor to countless students throughout his career.
On July 14, 1973, Colin married the love of his life, Jonnie Pearson. Together, they built a beautiful life, rooted in love and mutual respect, that spanned over 51 wonderful years. Their partnership was a testament to the power of love, and together, they raised two remarkable daughters, Claire and Alex. Colin's pride in his daughters was palpable, and he was an unwavering source of support and encouragement in their lives.
Colin was a doting grandfather, deeply involved in the lives of his three granddaughters: Orla, Briar, and Ellie. He took immense joy in watching them grow, finding delight in their every accomplishment and cherishing the special bond he shared with each of them. His stories, laughter, and wisdom will forever echo in their hearts.
Colin's life was a tapestry woven with threads of kindness, humor, and a boundless zest for life. He touched the lives of many, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion that will be carried forward by those who knew him. He will be remembered not only for his achievements but also for his generous spirit and the warmth he brought into every room.
In addition to his wife Jonnie, daughters Claire and Alex, and granddaughters Orla, Briar, and Ellie, Colin is survived by a circle of family and friends who will miss him dearly. His departure leaves a void, but his memory will forever be a guiding light.
A celebration of Colin's life will be held to honor his memory and the incredible impact he had on the world. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to a charity close to Colin's heart, continuing his legacy of giving and kindness.
