Cody Scott Spears

July 30, 1994 — April 13, 2026

In loving memory of Cody Scott Spears, whose vibrant spirit and unwavering dedication to family, faith, and community left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Cody, aged 31, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026, leaving a legacy of love and devotion that will forever be cherished by his family and friends. Born on July 30, 1994, in the welcoming town of Martinsburg, West Virginia, Cody was the beloved son of Rev. Barry Spears and DeeDee Spears. His upbringing was steeped in faith, and he carried those values into every aspect of his life. Cody was a beacon of love and compassion, traits he inherited from his cherished grandparents, Randall "Pappaw" Spears, Sr., and Papa Brown, both of whom predeceased him. Cody's father-in-law, Donald "Red" Truesdale, also preceded him in death, and he now joins them, along with his beloved daughter, Blair Nicole Spears, in peaceful repose. Cody's heart belonged to his adoring wife, Katherine Ali Truesdale Spears, and their precious daughter, Faith Marie Spears. The Spears family was eagerly anticipating the arrival of Cody and Katherine's son, River Kade Spears, who is expected to enter this world soon—a symbol of hope and continuity for their family. A member of Sonrise Baptist Church in Columbia, SC, Cody found joy and purpose in his faith. His musical talents graced the congregation, as he played bass guitar and piano in the church's music ministry. Cody's devotion to God, country, and community was evident in his every action and interaction, leaving a profound impact on those around him. Cody's passions extended beyond his faith and family. He had a deep love for trucks and motorcycles, often embarking on adventures that allowed him to explore the open road. These pursuits were more than mere hobbies; they were expressions of his zest for life and the freedom he found in the world around him. Described by all who knew him as an amazing father, Cody's greatest joy was his family. He was profoundly excited to welcome his first son into the world, a testament to his enduring love and commitment as a parent. His life was a testament to the power of love and the importance of nurturing relationships with those who matter most. Cody is survived by his loving wife Katherine, their daughter Faith, his soon-to-arrive son River, his devoted parents Rev. Barry and DeeDee Spears, and his grandmothers, Sharon "Mammy" Spears and Jerri "Grancie" Brown. His life was further enriched by a host of other family members and friends who will continue to celebrate his memory. In remembering Cody, we honor a life well-lived—one defined by love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to those he held dear. His legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him, as we carry forward the lessons he taught us: to love fiercely, live fully, and cherish every moment. A celebration of Cody's life will be held at Sonrise Baptist Church, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember a life that was a true blessing to all. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of choice or to the church's music ministry, as a tribute to Cody's enduring passion for music and faith. As we say goodbye to Cody Scott Spears, we do so with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for the time we shared with him. May his soul rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and warmth he so generously gave to others.
