It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Clifton Tyrone Tarrance Sr., who left this world on August 19, 2026, after a courageous long battle with illness. Born on February 10, 1956, in Cleveland, Ohio, Clifton was a beacon of strength, humor, and love, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Clifton was the beloved son of the late William McKinley Tarrance and Kathonia Mae Tarrance. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Benjamin Mealing, William McKinley Tarrance Jr., and Mary Elizabeth Bush. Clifton's life was a testament to the enduring power of family and friendship. He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Gail Denise Young, whom he married on February 4, 1978, in Cleveland, Ohio. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Lucitta (Rawle), LaKesha (George Sr.), and Clifton Jr. (Sarah, his fiancée). Clifton's legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, George Jr., Immanuel, Tamia, Gabriel, JoEl, and Savannah, and his loving sister, Ruby Lee Tarrance. A proud graduate of Glenville High School in 1973, Clifton pursued studies in electrician courses at Tri-C. He served with honor in the US Army starting June 27, 1974, earning the National Defense Service Medal and recognition for his marksmanship with a rifle. Clifton was honorably discharged, carrying forward the discipline and dedication he exhibited during his service into every aspect of his life. Clifton's professional journey saw him as a skilled painter in the Maintenance Department at Warrensville Developmental Center, where he also served as a union representative. Later, he worked as a steelworker at Midland Steel until his retirement in 2002. His colleagues remember him for his unwavering work ethic and his infectious humor. An active member of the Christian Pentecostal Assembly, Clifton was baptized there during his teen years and sang with the Crusaders, a group that included his cousin and best friends James, Morris, and Leroy. Clifton's amazing voice and love for music were only matched by his passion for sports. An avid sports fan, he was a dedicated supporter of the Cleveland Browns, The Guardians, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Clifton was known for his quick wit, warm smile, and a humorously sarcastic nature that brightened the lives of those around him. His passing leaves a void that will be felt deeply by all who knew him. A service to celebrate Clifton's life will be held on August 28, 2026, at 9:30 AM at Calhoun Funeral & Cremation located at 17010 Lakeshore Blvd, Cleveland, OH 44110. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in honor of Clifton's generous spirit.
