Clifford Hatch

March 3, 1942 — March 15, 2025

It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Clifford Hatch, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Clifford peacefully departed this world on March 15, 2025, at the age of 83, at Maine Medical Center after a courageous battle with illness. Born on March 3, 1942, in Portland, ME, Clifford was the cherished son of Lawrence and Eva Hatch. Clifford was a man who wore many hats throughout his lifetime, each with distinction and devotion. A proud graduate of Deering High School in 1960, he furthered his education at the University of Southern Maine, graduating in 1964. His sense of duty extended beyond education as he served with honor as a Sergeant in the Maine Army National Guard for six years. In July 1964, Clifford married the love of his life, Nancy Ames, beginning a beautiful journey together that would span an incredible 61 years. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter, raising two wonderful sons, Scott and Todd, who in turn gifted them five beautiful grandchildren: Payton, Cady, Hadley, Connor, and Carter. Clifford treasured his family above all else and found immense joy in his role as a grandfather. Professionally, Clifford dedicated 24 years to the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors as a District Sales Manager, where he was known for his integrity and work ethic. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to purchase and run the Old Port Sandwich Shop, affectionately known as "Cliff's Place," for 16 years. Even in retirement, Clifford's commitment to community service never waned as he worked for the Town of Scarborough, first in the Town Hall and later with the police department, until retiring again in 2024. Clifford's life was a testament to the virtues of hard work, kindness, and dedication. His legacy is carried forward by his loving wife, Nancy Hatch, his sons Scott (and wife Diana) of Gorham and Todd (and partner Jen Marsh) of Yarmouth, his cherished grandchildren, and his sisters Carolyn Boyd of Kennebunkport, ME, and Cynthia Huff of Winthrop, MA. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Jim Ames of Windham, ME, as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews, and extended family members, including Donna McGreevy. A service to celebrate Clifford's life will be held on March 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, located at 199 Woodford St, Portland, ME 04103. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Good Shepherd Food Bank, an organization Clifford supported passionately, in his memory. Contributions can be made at www.gsfb.org under the memorial fund "In Memory of Clifford Hatch." Though Clifford has left this earthly realm, his spirit and the memories he created will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched. His was a life of service, love, and unfaltering dedication to his family and community. We bid farewell to Clifford Hatch with gratitude for his life and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him.
