September 11, 1938 — March 29, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Clifford Arthur Turnbo, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who departed this world on April 29, 2026, at the age of 87. Clifford was born on September 11, 1938, in Decatur, Illinois, to Howard Arthur Turnbo and Olive Mae Walker. His life was characterized by profound dedication, love, and service to both his family and country. Clifford spent his formative years in Decatur, Illinois, where he was instilled with the values of hard work and kindness. In 1958, he answered the call to serve his nation, joining the United States Air Force. Over two decades, Clifford rose through the ranks to become a Master Sergeant, retiring in 1979 from Edwards Air Force Base. His commitment to service was a testament to his character, and he carried this dedication into every aspect of his life. In 1960, Clifford married the love of his life, Margaret Hill, in a beautiful ceremony in Reno, Nevada. Together, they spent 65 wonderful years, creating a family rooted in love, laughter, and cherished memories. Clifford’s devotion to his family was evident in the joy he took in their gatherings, especially when he was behind the grill, sharing his special barbeque sauce with those he loved, though he never revealed the secret recipe. After retiring from the Air Force, Clifford continued to serve his community, working for 25 years as a warehouse supervisor at the Rio Tinto Company’s Borax plant in Boron, California. He also brought joy to many as a bartender at the Lake Shore Inn, where his warmth and humor made him many friends. Clifford's life was enriched by his hobbies and interests. He was an enthusiastic golfer, sharing his love of the game with others. Even when he could no longer play, he cherished the camaraderie at the clubhouse with his friends. His curiosity and zest for life were evident in his love for ordering items online, with his home still revealing treasures from his many Amazon finds. Clifford was also known for his sweet tooth, a secret indulgence he carefully kept from his beloved Margaret. Above all, Clifford was a family man. He is survived by his devoted wife, Margaret Turnbo; his children, Patricia Jones and her husband James, Markell Turnbo, and Andrea Turnbo. He was a proud grandfather to Anthony Ervin, Jeremy Jones, and Justin Jones, and a loving great-grandfather, affectionately known as "Papa Cliff" to Kora, Leon, and Melo. Clifford also leaves behind a host of sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he cherished deeply. Clifford was a man of generosity and compassion, always seeking ways to support his family and contribute to charitable causes. His legacy of love and provision is a guiding light for those he leaves behind. A service to honor Clifford’s life will be held on May 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the California City Memorial Park, located at 22000 Ransburg Mojave Rd., California City, CA 93505. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Your kindness has been a great comfort as we celebrate the remarkable life of Clifford Arthur Turnbo. In Clifford’s honor, we reflect on the words from John 5:28, reminding us of the hope and peace that come with a life well-lived.
