Claudio Escalante Vallez
August 1, 1930 — June 17, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Claudio Escalante Vallez on June 17, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on August 1, 1930, in the serene town of Villa Clara Manicaragua, Cuba, Claudio was a beacon of resilience, faith, and love throughout his rich life.
Claudio was the cherished son of Felipe Escalante and Carmen Vallez. Life's circumstances saw him mature quickly as he lost his mother at the tender age of 17 months. Raised by a family that instilled in him the value of education and hard work, Claudio's early lessons began at home. With the support of his aunts and uncles, he learned to read and developed a thirst for knowledge, which later led him to boarding school where his tenacity and work ethic flourished.
In his early twenties, Claudio served in the Cuban Army, a period that shaped his faith and led him to trade school where he honed his skills as a mechanic, welder, and auto body technician. Often referring to himself as a "car body man," his craftsmanship and dedication to his trade were unparalleled.
In 1980, guided by faith and the vision of a better future, Claudio and his beloved wife Irmina made the courageous decision to flee the communist regime in Cuba. Together, they embarked on a journey to the United States, carving out a new life filled with challenges and triumphs. Their unwavering faith and relentless hard work provided a foundation of love and stability for their daughters, Rebeca and Eunice, as well as their growing family.
Claudio's life was a testament to the power of love and faith. A devoted husband, he shared a deep, unbreakable bond with his wife Irmina, who preceded him in death just six months earlier. In his final days, Claudio expressed a profound sense of peace and readiness to reunite with his "Viejita," confident in the promise of seeing her again in Heaven.
A man of many talents, Claudio had a passion for music, often losing himself in the melodies of his guitar, playing hymn after hymn with a heart full of devotion. His love for the Bible was unwavering, and he never missed an opportunity to share its teachings, often engaging in scripture discussions and living by its principles.
Claudio is survived by his beloved daughters Rebeca and Eunice, and leaves behind a legacy in his grandchildren: Derek, Joseph, Aviana, and Alyssa. He is also survived by his sons-in-law, Vic and Wilfredo, and his great-granddaughter-in-law, Caroline, along with his great-grandson, Riley. His family was his pride and joy, and he cherished each and every moment spent with them.
Claudio's million-dollar smile and gift for conversation will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. Though at times he may have been frustrating with his steadfast ways, his generous spirit and forgiving nature left a lasting impact. Never one to hold a grudge, he was always ready to forgive and lend a helping hand, even if it meant giving the shirt off his back.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have gathered to honor Claudio's life and memory. Though he was known for being frugal, his love knew no bounds, and his legacy of faith and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
Papi, Abuelo, Tio, Buen amigo, te queremos y te extrañaremos hasta que, con la ayuda de Dios, nos veamos junto al Río. Thank you for being a guiding light in our lives. Your love and teachings will continue to inspire us every day.
