Claudia Jane Campbell

March 24, 1947 — June 1, 2026

Claudia Campbell passed away on June 01, 2026 in her home in Alexandria, VA. Claudia was born on March 24th, 1947 to Emma Slomp Campbell McComber and Charles Francis Campbell in Sacramento, CA. After graduating from Rio Linda High School in 1965, she studied at multiple colleges, and graduated from UC Berkeley. She later completed her master’s degree in Biology & Ecology at UCLA in 1982. After Claudia had her boys, Adam (1985) and Jesse (1986), she dedicated her life to being a devoted and loving mother. She made it her mission to improve the lives of others. She was passionate about science education, volunteering for many years at the International School of Panama, which her sons attended, and later worked in science curriculum development at the Smithsonian Institution where she was a writer and editor for K-12 science textbooks. Claudia volunteered at the local food pantry and shelter, and gave her time and skills freely for the betterment of those around her. She became a grandmother to Alexander in 2022, and has showered him with endless love, home-made gifts, and attention. Claudia was a proliferative crafts maker, sending handmade blankets, place-settings, tapestries, etc. to family members across the country. She was also an adventurous cook, always eager to try new recipes and share her favorites. She loved music and dancing, and was often curious to check out a new artist or band. Claudia filled her home with colorful art from her many travels and life experiences, lots of family photos, and, above all, her deep warmth and kindness. When she wasn’t filling her home with love, she could be found curled up with her dog Pepper watching a Korean drama. We will miss her greatly. Claudia was predeceased by her parents, Emma and Charlie. She is survived by her sons Adam and Jesse (daughter-in-law Milana); her sisters Loretta and Winkie (brother-in-law Ernie); her nephews and niece Tim, Curtis, and Julia and their families; her grandson Alexander; and her dog Pepper.
