Claudia Huntley

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Claudia Huntley, a beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, who left this world peacefully on July 17, 2026, following a long stay in hospice care. Born on May 6, 1953, in Toledo, Ohio, Claudia was a beacon of love and kindness, touching the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Claudia was the cherished daughter of Betty and Claude Huntley, who, along with her siblings Jackie (Wendell) and Vincent (Delores) Allen, and her many nieces and nephews, mourn her passing deeply. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Tameisha Huntley, and her precious granddaughter, Travonda Wilson. Claudia was also a guiding spirit to her three godchildren, Allen, Andre, and Kaleb, each of whom were touched by her nurturing heart. After graduating from Western Senior High School in 1971, Claudia embarked on her journey of lifelong learning and service, continuing her education at Strayer University College. Her dedication and passion led her to a 37-year career with the Environmental Protection Agency, where she retired in June. Claudia's work was a testament to her commitment to making the world a better place for future generations. A woman of faith, Claudia was an active member of Pleasant Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., and the First Baptist Church of Highland Park in Landover, Maryland. Her spirituality was reflected in her kindhearted, selfless, and giving nature, qualities that endeared her to all. Claudia found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was spending time with her family, traveling to new places, or the thrill of bowling and shopping. She also had a fondness for the sounds of slot machines, which brought a sparkle to her eyes. Claudia's life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and compassion. She was married in 1973 to the late Aaron Abbey, a union that, although it ended in divorce, brought forth treasured memories and lessons that she carried with her throughout her life. A celebration of Claudia's life will be held on August 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1500 Ninth Street N.W., Washington, D.C. The family welcomes all who knew her to join them in honoring her remarkable journey. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Claudia's memory. As we say goodbye to Claudia, we hold close the words of Dolores M. Garcia: “If Roses Grow in Heaven.” These words reflect the enduring bond we have with Claudia, a bond that remains unbroken, even as she rests in the arms of eternal peace. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she cherished and those who cherished her.
