March 9, 1958 — April 4, 2026

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Claris Mae Buckley, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who peacefully left this world on April 4, 2026, at the age of 68. Born on March 9, 1958, in the picturesque Utila Bay Islands of Honduras, Claris was a beacon of warmth and compassion whose memory will forever be cherished by all who knew her. Claris' life was a testament to love and resilience. She was the cherished daughter of Trixie James and William Buckley, and is predeceased by her parents, siblings Dewey, Davis, Rosie, Cora, and Grace, and her beloved granddaughter, Angelica. She is survived by her devoted husband of over 40 years, Jorge, who stood by her side through life's triumphs and trials. Their enduring love was a source of strength and inspiration to their family. Claris leaves behind a legacy of love in her children: Tracie Lee, Anthony (affectionately known as Niño), Clarissa (Cayi), Jorge (Bucho), and Annie (Teed). Her nurturing spirit and unwavering support live on through her 14 adoring grandchildren: Gayle and Joseph Centeno, Halley, Jordyn, and Lucy Bryant, Melvin Castro, Elijah, Zeke, Adonis and Aitana Castro, Alisha, Joshua, Davis, and Tiana Melendez. She is also survived by her siblings Cherry Ann, Carol, Janelle, Amy, Tom, and Tony, who will carry her memory in their hearts. Claris dedicated her professional life to the service of others, earning her credentials as a social worker and truancy officer with Congreso in Philadelphia. Her commitment to helping others was evident in her work, where she touched countless lives. Although she retired in 2009 due to disability, Claris found her greatest fulfillment as a homemaker, pouring her love and energy into creating a warm and welcoming home for her family. Her involvement with the Maria de los Santos Health Center showcased her dedication to community service, where she both learned and taught others about managing diabetes. Despite the challenges of her health, Claris was an avid creator, finding joy in crocheting and making jewelry, gifts that brought joy to her loved ones. Her kitchen was a haven of warmth and laughter, where she delighted in cooking for her family and immersing herself in the simple joys of life. Claris was known for her bright smile, often highlighted by her favorite cherry-red lipstick and a spritz of Estée Lauder perfume. Her impeccable sense of style and love for the ritual of getting ready was a reflection of her vibrant personality. A natural storyteller, Claris could light up any room with her jokes and cherished memories of days gone by. More than anything, she was a staunch advocate for mental health, encouraging her children and grandchildren to be true to themselves and prioritize their well-being. A service to honor the remarkable life of Claris Mae Buckley will be held on April 17, 2026, at 9:00 AM at the Guckin Funeral Mansion, located at 3330 G Street. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate and pay tribute to a life well-lived. In Claris' passing, we are reminded of the indelible mark she has left on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering support will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. May she rest in eternal peace, forever held in our hearts.
