In Loving Memory

Clarence Gardner
February 11, 1956 — April 20, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of our beloved Clarence Gardner. Clarence departed this world peacefully on April 20, 2026, at the age of 70, enveloped in the love of his family.
Born on February 11, 1956, in Shaw, Mississippi, Clarence was the cherished son of the late Willie and Iola Gardner. He was the younger brother to Willie Jr., Henry, and Lula Curry, all of whom preceded him in death. From an early age, Clarence exhibited a vibrant spirit and an infectious sense of humor, earning his place as the beloved joker of the family. His laughter was a source of joy for all who knew him, and his love for his family was boundless.
Clarence graduated from Austin High School in 1978, embarking on a lifelong journey of diligent work and unwavering dedication. For 30 years, he worked with pride at the steel mill, retiring in 2023. His commitment to his work was matched only by his devotion to his family, whom he cherished above all else.
Clarence leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter through his surviving family: his three children, Shanika, Shane, and Justine, and his two stepchildren, Bre and Ware. He also leaves behind five sisters, Cornelia, Cardine, Josephine Gardner, Bobbie Nelson, Diane Gardner Ridgner, and Bula Gardner, and two brothers, Eddie and John Gardner. Clarence was a devoted grandfather to 10 grandchildren and a proud great-grandfather to 2 great-grandchildren, all of whom were the light of his life.
A service to celebrate Clarence's life will be held on May 2, 2026, at New Home Church, located at 879 S Cicero, Chicago, IL 60644. We invite all who knew and loved Clarence to join us in honoring his memory and sharing stories of the laughter and joy he brought into our lives. The service will begin at midnight, a time chosen to reflect the unending warmth Clarence brought into our lives.
The Gardner family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their cards, calls, and expressions of concern during these trying times. Your support and kindness have been a source of comfort and strength.
In remembrance of Clarence, let us carry forward his legacy of laughter and love, keeping his spirit alive in our hearts. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will be forever missed.
