Clarence Charles Loomis aka Spud, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2026, at the age of 98. Born on June 3, 1928, in Oakland, California, Clarence lived a life filled with love, adventure, and wisdom.
Clarence served his country with honor as a member of the U.S. Navy, an experience that instilled in him a deep sense of duty and commitment. His career path led him to become a dedicated professional, though he always found time to nurture his personal passions. A voracious reader, Clarence had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, which he shared generously with those around him. He was also a world traveler, exploring places far and wide, which enriched his understanding of different cultures and peoples. Clarence cherished the simple joys of camping and birdwatching, activities that connected him to the great outdoors and provided countless happy memories with family and friends.
Clarence's life was a testament to the power of love and family. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Mikki Roth Loomis, who stood by his side throughout their journey together. Together, they raised a family that became the center of Clarence’s world. He leaves behind five children—Sue, Geoff, Allison, Gretchen, and Chris—each of whom carries forward his legacy of kindness and integrity.
As a grandfather / Papa to Amy, Scott, and Madison. A great-grandfather to Mariah, Alexis, Crystal, and Bella who he helped raise along with his wife Mikki. Clarence found immense joy in the company of the younger generations. His wisdom and warmth left a lasting impression on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will continue to hold his memory close to their hearts. His grandson Scott spoke of him with profound gratitude, saying, "You taught me how to be a man, gave me a thirst for knowledge, gave me a moral compass, and so much more. You were always there, the best role model, and always had my best interest. The gratitude I have for you is infinite, and I will always remember the impact you had in my life. I miss and love you so much. Rest in peace, Papa."
In honoring Clarence's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held in the future to celebrate his extraordinary life. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Clarence’s memory to a organization supporting mental health.
Clarence Charles Loomis will be remembered for his gentle strength, his unwavering love for his family, friends, and his insatiable curiosity about the world. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his spirit will guide them always.
