It is with heavy hearts and deep respect that we announce the passing of our beloved Cindy Sue Marvel, who left this world peacefully on June 10, 2026, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family at Lauderdale Community Hospital in Ripley, TN. Cindy was born on December 29, 1956, in Tipton County, TN, to the late Walter Thurmond and Frances (Byrd) Cross.
Cindy's life was a testament to love, dedication, and unwavering commitment to her family. A devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, Cindy's nurturing spirit and kind heart touched the lives of all who knew her. She was a guiding light to her children, Lisa Fincher and Ray Marvel, both of Ripley, TN, and a cherished presence in the lives of her eight grandchildren: Faith, Bryce, Rebecca, Bailey, Kaitlyn, Charleston, Daniel, and Maddie. Her legacy of love further extends to her seven great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored deeply.
Cindy was predeceased by her loving husband, Johnny Rayburn Marvel, with whom she shared decades of cherished memories. She also joins in eternal rest her sisters, Mary Etheridge, Elizabeth Hinson, Betty Jean Tucker, Mattie Lou Hunt, Judy Tucker, and her brothers, Tex, Billy, Leon, Troy, Walter Jr., and Johnny Cross. Her surviving brother, Jerry "Buck" Cross of Covington, TN, holds dear the memories of their shared childhood and enduring sibling bond.
A dedicated worker, Cindy contributed many years to S & R, where she was not just a colleague but a friend to many. After her retirement, she fully embraced her role as a homemaker—a role she excelled in with grace and joy. Cindy found immense happiness in caring for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home was a haven of warmth, filled with the comforting aromas of her delicious baking and cooking, particularly during family holidays and gatherings she loved so much.
Cindy's life was rich with cherished friendships. Her neighbors and dear friends, Jeffery Sanders, Gail Daniels, and Angel Churovich, were an integral part of her life, sharing countless moments of laughter and support.
Cindy Sue Marvel was a beacon of love and strength, whose memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Her family will honor her life in a private ceremony, reflecting the personal and intimate nature of her cherished relationships.
Though Cindy's physical presence has departed, her spirit, love, and the indelible mark she left on those who knew her will remain eternal. In the words of those who loved her dearly, Cindy was not just a caretaker of her family, but the very heart of it. She will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered.
