November 25, 1971 — May 9, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Christy Dionne Wilkinson, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, who left this world on May 9, 2026, at the age of 54 in Clarksburg, West Virginia, after a courageous battle with end-stage kidney disease. Born on November 25, 1971, in Clarksburg, Christy was a beacon of strength, kindness, and resilience throughout her life. Christy was the cherished daughter of Mavis Hairston and Mike Cox, who surrounded her with love and support from the very beginning. Her family roots were deep and strong, enriched by the love of her predeceased grandparents, Charles (Jeanette) Wilkinson, Harold Cox, and Katherine Jenkins Cox Shields, as well as her devoted aunts and uncles, Donna Kay Watkins, Linda Cox Black, David Wilkinson, James Wilkinson, Keith Cox, and James Cox, who all played significant roles in her life. She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion, which will be carried on by her beloved daughter, Briana Wilkinson of Akron, Ohio, who was the light of Christy's life. Christy's love for her family was boundless and evident in the strong bonds she shared with her siblings Anita (Desmond) Triplin of Johnstown, PA, Dawn Hairston, Cicily Cox, and Justin Cox, all of Clarksburg, WV, and Mitchell (Sarah) Hairston of Lenoir, NC. Her nieces and nephews—Mckennah, Morgan, Dakota, Stella, Rue, Jordan, Davon, and Bryce—will always remember her as a fun-loving and supportive aunt who encouraged them to follow their dreams. Christy's life was blessed with the company of her aunts Sheila Hill of Akron, OH, Debbie Cox of Longs, SC, and Jeanette Walker of Clarksburg, WV, and her uncles Doug (Cindy) Wilkinson and Tinsley (Barbara) Wilkinson of Clarksburg, WV, Timothy Wilkinson of Parkersburg, WV, Dale Cox of Clarksburg, WV, David (Jodi) Cox of Longs, SC, and Vonnie Shields of Clarksburg, WV. Their unwavering support and camaraderie were sources of great joy and comfort to her. Throughout her life, Christy was known for her warmth, generosity, and her unwavering optimism, even in the face of adversity. Her positive spirit was infectious, and her ability to find joy in the simplest of moments was an inspiration to all who knew her. She had a remarkable talent for making those around her feel special and loved, always putting others before herself, and her legacy of kindness and empathy will continue to resonate in the hearts of everyone she touched. Christy's family extends their sincere gratitude to all those who have offered their love and support during this difficult time. Her life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the importance of family. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. A celebration of Christy's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor the beautiful soul that she was. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation in Christy's memory, to continue the fight against kidney disease and to honor her courageous battle. Rest in peace, dear Christy. You will always be in our hearts and minds, guiding us with the same love and light that you so freely shared with the world.
