May 29, 1987 — April 29, 2026

It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Christy Chapman, who left this world on April 29, 2026, at the age of 38. Christy departed from us in Copenhagen, New York, the very place where her journey began on May 29, 1987. Her life, though tragically cut short, was filled with love, laughter, and resilience. Christy was the cherished daughter of Donna Montigny, and though her mother preceded her in death in 2016, the bond they shared was unbreakable and everlasting. Christy was also predeceased by her beloved grandmother in 2003, her caring aunt in 2006, and her supportive uncle in 2015. These losses were profound, yet Christy faced each with remarkable strength and grace, carrying the memories of her loved ones with her always. She is survived by her devoted husband, Richard Chapman, with whom she shared a deep and enduring love. Their journey together was one of resilience and commitment, having married on March 3, 2018, and then finding each other anew in 2025 after a brief separation. Richard was her rock, her confidant, and her greatest love. Christy's journey of learning began at Copenhagen High School, from where she graduated in 2007. Her career was one of dedication and service, as she contributed to her community through her work with BOCES Community Base Training. As a member of ARC and NRICL, Christy devoted herself to causes that uplifted those around her, embodying compassion and empathy in all her endeavors. Her life was enriched by simple pleasures; she found joy in playing cards, solving puzzles, and creating lasting memories through scrapbooking. Christy treasured the time spent with her husband and their beloved animals, moments that brought light and laughter into their home. Though she did not serve in the military, Christy's life was a testament to service—service to her family, her friends, and her community. Her acts of kindness and her gentle spirit will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. In accordance with Christy's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor her memory. As we say our goodbyes, we remember Christy for the warmth she brought into our lives, her unwavering love, and her indomitable spirit. Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find solace in the legacy of love and kindness Christy leaves behind. May she rest in peace, forever in our hearts and memories, as she is reunited with those who went before her. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Christy's memory to organizations that support addiction recovery and mental health, continuing her legacy of compassion and care. Rest in peace, dear Christy. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
