Christopher G. Harper, a life-long learner, esteemed attorney, and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, at the Hock Family Pavilion. Born on December 16, 1960, in Brooklyn, NY, Christopher's journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to justice, education, and love for his family and community.
The beloved son of Elijah Harper and Gracie M. Corner Harper, Christopher was predeceased by his father, Elijah, whose spirit of resilience and integrity he carried throughout his life. Christopher's legacy of kindness and dedication continues through his cherished family: his loving wife of 40 years, Monica; his siblings, Brenda Covington of Flowery Branch, GA, LaMorris Harper of Fredericksburg, VA, and Quinton Harper of Orangeburg, SC; and his dear mother-in-law, Martha B. Clark of Shelby, NC. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who were touched by his warmth and generosity.
Christopher and Monica's love story began with their marriage on August 23, 1986, in Shelby, NC. Together, they built a home filled with laughter and love, celebrating 46 wonderful years of marriage. Their partnership was a testament to enduring love, resilience, and mutual respect, forming the cornerstone of Christopher’s life.
A product of Orangeburg Wilkerson High School, Christopher graduated in 1979 and pursued higher education with vigor. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1983 and a Juris Doctor Degree in 1991, both from North Carolina Central University. His academic pursuits were not just accolades but stepping stones towards a career dedicated to upholding justice and serving the community.
For 25 years, Christopher practiced law in Durham, NC, where he became a respected figure in the legal community. His work was characterized by compassion and an unwavering commitment to helping others, earning him numerous awards and recognition. His contributions extended beyond the courtroom as he served in various roles: a dedicated professor, a leader at the Legal Aid of Durham County, and an active member of the NC State Bar and Durham County Bar.
Christopher's life was a vibrant tapestry of interests and passions. An avid golfer, he found peace and camaraderie on the greens. He took pride in maintaining his home's landscaping, often found planting flowers or tending to his garden. His love for travel and sports cars added further layers to his dynamic personality.
A service celebrating Christopher’s life will be held on June 12, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Miracle Temple Church, located at 7110 Russell Road, Durham, NC 27712. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society, causes close to his heart.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of 9300 at Duke Hospital and the Hock Family Pavilion for their compassionate care.
