With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of our beloved Christopher Bryant Phillips on April 16, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on July 2, 1953, in Raleigh, North Carolina, Chris was a beacon of warmth and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on everyone he met.
Chris was the son of JC and Betty Phillips, both of whom predeceased him. He was a devoted husband to Barbara Ellstrom Phillips, with whom he shared 37 wonderful years. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to family. Chris was a proud father to Jason (Beth) Phillips, Casey Phillips, and Melissa (Thomas) Lloyd. His joy multiplied with the births of his five grandchildren: Lily, Josie, Harper, Andrew, and Kyler, who brought immense happiness to his life.
A graduate of Millbrook High School in 1972, Chris furthered his education with an Associate’s Business degree from King’s College in 1975. He dedicated his professional life to the shipping and receiving industry, where he excelled in various management positions until his retirement in 2018.
Chris was a man of many passions. In his younger years, he had a love for water skiing, and he remained an avid fan of beach music and shag dancing throughout his life. His enthusiasm for classic cars led him to frequent car shows, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and shared interests of fellow enthusiasts. Each December, Chris brought joy to the Apex community by playing Santa, a role that perfectly suited his generous spirit and caring heart.
Known for his love of all the neighborhood dogs, Chris had a knack for bringing out the best in people, always encouraging others to better themselves. His generous nature shone brightly, particularly when dining out, where he was known as a favorite tipper, leaving warmth and gratitude in his wake.
Chris is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his children and their spouses; his treasured grandchildren; and his brother, Cliff (Judy) Phillips. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Pesqueira, Dr. Mohar, Dr. Wehbie, and the nurses and caregivers at Transitions LifeCare, whose compassion and care provided immense comfort to Chris and his family during his final days.
A celebration of Chris’s life will be held on April 19, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Woodland Baptist Church, located at 190 Woodland Church Road, Wake Forest, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Transitions LifeCare, an organization that supported Chris with great care, at transitionslifecare.org/donate/.
As we say goodbye to Chris, we remember the light he brought into our lives and the legacy of love and kindness he leaves behind. He will forever be missed but never forgotten, as his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
