In Loving Memory of Christie Johnson
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Christie Johnson, a beloved daughter, mother, and friend, who left this world on October 3, 2026. Christie was born on June 6, 1982, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Her life was a testament to the strength of love, family, and community.
Christie's early years in Ripley, Tennessee, laid the foundation for a life filled with academic and personal achievements. After graduating high school, she pursued higher education at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. Her professional journey was marked by dedication and versatility, as she excelled in the legal field as a paralegal and case manager before following her passion for teaching. Christie inspired many young minds as a math teacher for 6th and 7th graders in Shelby County Schools. Most recently, she found joy working alongside her daughter and best friend, Giahnna, at California Pizza Kitchen.
Christie married the love of her life, Martin Johnson, on November 1, 2004. Together, they shared a love that was as fierce as it was tender. Although Martin preceded her in death, the love they shared continues to be a guiding force for those who knew them.
Her family was the heart of her world. Christie was a devoted daughter, a loving mother to her daughter, Giahnna, and a caring sister to Crystal Hoskins. Her compassionate nature and generous spirit were gifts to all who crossed her path. Christie was known for her beautiful smile, kind heart, and the fierce loyalty she showed to those she loved.
A talented artist, Christie expressed herself through painting. Her artistry could also be seen in her collection of beautiful tattoos, which adorned her body like a canvas. Her creativity was celebrated by those closest to her, as was her unwavering faith, nurtured through her attendance at St. Phillip’s Catholic Church in Franklin, Tennessee.
Christie is survived by her daughter Giahnna, mother Tammie Powers, and sister Crystal (Aaron) Hoskins. She joins in eternal rest her husband Martin, brother Zac Whitehouse, father Larry Powers, grandparents Fred and Sandy Whitehouse, uncle Jeff Whitehouse, and great-grandparents James and Charlotte York, and Elburn and Ona Whitehouse.
A private memorial service will be held to honor Christie's life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Tammie Powers/Christie Johnson Memorial Fund at Community Bank in Lexington, TN.
As we remember Christie, remember her favorite Bible verse, "Don't worry about anything, instead pray about everything”. She had this tattooed on her body as a reflection of her enduring faith and resilience. May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her and loved her.
