He is survived by his loving mother, grandparents Albertine and Charles Arrington, brother Carl R Smith IV, and a large, adoring extended family, including his aunts and uncles LaTanya and Corey Smith, and Tanya and Clay Thompson, as well as his cousins Jonathan and Omar Helm, and Brandon, Gavin, and Lindsey Hill. He was also blessed with godparents Thomas Teagues and Chante Griffin.
Education was a significant part of Christian's life. He graduated from Oak Glen Elementary School in 2013 and Memorial Junior High School in 2016. He attended Homewood-Flossmoor High School and graduated from Hyde Park Academy High School in 2020. Christian was currently pursuing his dream of becoming a teacher at Concordia University Chicago, where he was on track to graduate in December 2027 with a Bachelor's degree.
Christian's life was a testament to his deep and abiding faith. A dedicated servant of God, he was known for his passion for scripture and his love of daily prayer and worship. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and interactions with others. Even while away at college, he remained actively involved in worship and cherished the time spent at his grandparents' church when he was home.
Outside of his academic and spiritual pursuits, Christian was a young man of many talents and interests. His love for animals was matched only by his passion for sports, especially basketball. He reveled in the joy of puzzles, Lego builds, and games of all kinds. His adventurous spirit was evident in his love for travel, where he embraced new cultures and cuisines with enthusiasm. Whether on land or in water, Christian approached each adventure with a fearless heart.
Christian's gentle nature and kind spirit left an indelible mark on everyone he met. He had a unique ability to make others feel valued and seen, always noticing the small details that mattered most. His devotion to family was unparalleled, and he delighted in celebrating the milestones and achievements of those he loved.
A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Christian's life. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the students and staff at Concordia University for their unwavering support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Christian's memory be made to organizations that support education and youth mentorship, causes that were close to his heart.
Christian, your family and friends will forever remember you as their beautiful baby boy and angel. Your light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts, and your memory will be cherished always.
