It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Christgene L. Staten, who left this earthly realm unexpectedly on November 26, 2025. Born on October 27, 1998, in Dayton, Ohio, Christgene graced the world with a vibrant spirit and a heart full of love for 27 precious years.
Christgene was a beacon of light to those who knew him, cherished for his magnetic smile and infectious sense of humor. He was a dedicated father to his beloved son, Acen Staten, who was the center of his universe. Christgene's loyalty and understanding nature endeared him to many, and his faith was a guiding light in his life. He was a man who wore many hats - a son, a brother, a friend, and a creative soul who expressed his passion through drawing, rapping, and recording music.
Educated at Dunbar High School, Christgene had a zest for life that was palpable. He will be remembered for his artistic talents and the way he could create beauty through his art and music, leaving a legacy of creativity for all to cherish.
Christgene was predeceased by his father, Leeland Warnock, and a host of dear family members who have gone before him, including his grandmother Joyce Bitts, nephew Leeland Warnock ("Leelee"), grandfather Johnny Debrill, great-grandparents Oneal and Beverly Staten, niece Trinity Elam, and cousin Ciarra Chapman. Their spirits will surely be there to welcome him with open arms into the great beyond.
He is survived by a loving family who will continue to honor his memory: his devoted mother, Camela Staten, and his stepfather, Derrick Putman. His sisters, Kamica Vann, Alexis Harris, Faithe Staten, Isyss Putman, and Shateal Warnock, will forever hold his memory close. Christgene's legacy also lives on through his nephew Tai'rese Elam and niece Reighn Jackson. His grandmother Pamela (Mark) Hunter and special aunt LaTina Smart, alongside aunts Itasca Bryant and Johnetta (Richard) Moore, hold him dear in their hearts. Special cousins Keon and Keairra Zafr, Samantha Colier, and countless other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends will remember Christgene for the joy and laughter he brought into their lives.
A service to celebrate Christgene's life will be held on March 30, 2026, at 12:00 PM at the House of Wheat, located at 2107 N. Gettysburg, Dayton, Ohio 45406. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his honor via GoFundMe, where contributions can be made to support his family during this difficult time.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the House of Wheat and all those who have supported them in their time of need. Christgene's life, though cut short, was a testament to love, creativity, and resilience. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory forever be a blessing to those who knew and loved him.
