Chief Petty Officer Ralph Hughey

It is with deep respect and heartfelt gratitude that we celebrate the life of Chief Petty Officer Ralph Hughey, who passed away on August 16, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on April 8, 1942, in Jefferson. Georgia, Ralph was a beloved son to the late Reverend Vasco and Lucy Bell (Martin) Hughey. His journey, marked by dedication to his family, nation, and community, inspires all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Ralph spent his formative years in Jefferson, Georgia, where he graduated from Bryan High School, setting the stage for a life characterized by service and commitment. In 1962, Ralph answered the call to serve his country, embarking on a distinguished career in the United States Navy. Over two decades, from 1962 to 1983, he rose to the rank of E-7 Chief Petty Officer, serving with honor and distinction. Chief Petty Officer Hughey served with the 12th Flying Training Wing and Recruit Training Command. His naval career was not just a testament to his courage and leadership but also to his unwavering dedication to the values of duty, honor, and country. Though his professional accomplishments were many, Ralph's greatest pride was his family and the community he cherished. A man of deep faith, Ralph was actively involved in his church and numerous community organizations. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and service that continues to touch the lives of those who knew him. Ralph was predeceased by his beloved parents, Reverend Vasco and Lucy Bell (Martin) Hughey, whose values and teachings shaped the compassionate and principled man he became. The late Lucille Hughey Cooper, Vasco Hughey, Jr and John Hughey, Mr. Hughey is survived locally by Willie Hughey (Annie), Rev. J. T. (Glenda) Hughey, Bobby Hughey and Sister-In-Law, Brenda Hughey. He is also survived by children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Jacksonville, Florida. He is remembered with love and admiration by a wide circle of family, friends, and former colleagues who mourn his passing but celebrate the remarkable life he led. A service honoring Ralph's life will be held on August 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Zone International, located at 1209 Lane Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida. "Honor of the Guards" Jacksonville National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Family, friends, and all whose lives he touched are invited to join in remembering and celebrating a life well-lived.
