CHESTER MAGGARD JR.

September 30, 1959 — July 4, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Chester Maggard Jr., affectionately known as Checky, who left this world peacefully at home on July 4, 2025, after a brief illness. Born on September 30, 1959, in Whitesburg, Kentucky, Checky was a cherished son of the late Chester Maggard Sr. and Cora Minor. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Summer Maggard Bettis, and his brother, Larry Maggard. Checky's life was a testament to love, laughter, and resilience. He was a devoted father to his son Derek Maggard and daughter Summer. He found immense joy in his role as a grandfather to Lyric Bettis, Connor Maggard, Lexi Maggard, Skylar Maggard, and Presley Maggard. His sisters, Lana Lucas, Brenda Fleming, Debbie Maggard, and Sandy Maggard, remember him as a beacon of strength and kindness. Checky also leaves behind his son in law Victor Bettis and his daughter in law Rebecca Maggard, special friends, David and Liz Gibson, and numerous other family members and friends who were touched by his warmth and generosity. A proud alumnus of Jenkins High School in Jenkins, Kentucky, Checky embarked on a career in Dalton, Georgia, where he honed his skills as a mechanic in the carpet mills. His work ethic and expertise were admired by many, but it was his infectious laugh and playful spirit that endeared him to all who knew him. Checky had a unique gift for bringing joy to any room, often acting silly just to elicit a smile or a laugh from those around him. A man of deep faith, Checky was a devoted member of the Pentecostal community. His conversations often turned to his love for the Lord and his readiness to embrace his heavenly home. His spiritual convictions were a source of comfort and strength, both for himself and for those who had the privilege of knowing him. Checky and his partner, Liz, created a beautiful family, filled with love and laughter. Together, they nurtured their children and grandchildren, leaving a legacy of love that will endure for generations. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Summer, Derek, Liz, and David for their unwavering care and support during Checky's illness. Their dedication ensured that he was surrounded by love and comfort during his final days. As we bid farewell to Chester Maggard Jr., we celebrate a life well-lived, a life filled with love, laughter, and an enduring faith. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
