It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cheryl Lynn Holmes, a beloved daughter, sister, and friend, who departed this world on October 4, 2026, at the age of 72. Cheryl was born on November 12, 1953, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, to the late Malcolm Julius Goodman and Marion Irene Johnson Goodman. She was a beacon of intelligence and humor, known for her ability to bring laughter and joy to those around her when in good spirits. Cheryl's journey through life was marked by her dedication to education and her passion for learning. She graduated from John Jay High School in San Antonio, Texas, class of 1973. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to Austin Community College and then to the University of Texas in Austin, where she obtained her Business Degree. Cheryl also studied Pre-law and Political Science at Saint Mary's University in San Antonio, showcasing her keen interest in the intricacies of the political landscape. Her professional career began as a Purchasing Agent at Data General, where she served diligently until the company underwent significant layoffs in the 1980s. Although she chose to take a package deal and step away from long-term employment thereafter, Cheryl remained active and engaged in the world around her. A fervent advocate for political causes and a dedicated rescuer of dogs, Cheryl spent much of her time championing the rights of animals and individuals, using her voice and intellect to make a difference. She was a woman of conviction and compassion, who believed in the power of change and the importance of standing up for what is right. Cheryl's life was a tapestry of rich experiences and cherished memories, woven together with the love of her surviving family members: CR Bradley, Deniece Bruce, and Aletta Holloway. She is predeceased by her parents, Malcolm and Marion Goodman, and her sister, Mischelle Lee Goodman Frazier. In accordance with Cheryl's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor her life and legacy. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at the Mayo Hospital of Jacksonville, Florida, for their compassionate care during Cheryl's final days. Although Cheryl did not have grandchildren, her legacy lives on through the lives she touched and the causes she championed. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Cheryl's memory to a local dog rescue organization or a political advocacy group of your choice. Cheryl Lynn Holmes is now at peace, free from pain, and embraced by the love of Our Lord and Savior. Her tenacious spirit and unwavering dedication to the betterment of society will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
