Cheri Anderson

October 26, 1967 — June 4, 2026

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Cheri Lee Anderson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, on June 4th, 2026. Cheri was surrounded by her loving family at Billings Clinic Hospital as she peacefully left this world. Her vibrant spirit and compassionate heart left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered during her 58 years. Born in Glasgow, Montana, on October 26, 1967, Cheri was the cherished daughter of Marlin Malnaa and Imogene Wirtzberger. Her childhood in Opheim was filled with love and laughter, shared with her parents and siblings, Monte, Myron, Rocky, and Rory. Cheri's life was marked by the warmth and love she spread to all those around her. Cheri graduated from Opheim High School in 1986, showcasing the intelligence and determination that would guide her through life. In 1988, she obtained her Associate's Degree in Medical Technology from Northern Montana College, where she also began her career as an Administrative Assistant to the President. Her professional journey took her through various roles, from Blue Cross Blue Shield to teaching positions across Montana and North Dakota, culminating in a beloved position at Grace Montessori Academy in Billings, where she found immense joy and fulfillment. On August 6th, 1988, Cheri married the love of her life, Scott Anderson, at The First Lutheran Church in Opheim, MT. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with cherished memories and adventures, raising two wonderful sons, Derek and Austin. Cheri's nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, as she became a "second mom" to many of her sons' friends, always ready with a kind word, a snack, and a warm hug. A devoted grandmother, Cheri found her greatest joy in her grandson, Miles Lee. Her final months were filled with laughter and love, creating precious memories and ensuring that Miles always heard her say, "that's just the best ever." Her heart was also captured by her granddogs, Niko and Fiddler, who brought additional joy to her life. Cheri's hobbies reflected her generous and welcoming nature. She was the ultimate host, making everyone feel at home, whether at her house or their cabin at The Pines. Her love for decorating, cooking, baking, and playing games with friends and family enriched the lives of those around her. Her dedication to making others feel special was unparalleled, as she delighted in spoiling her family and friends with thoughtful gifts and treats. A beacon of positivity and kindness, Cheri was known for her infectious laughter and the ability to make everyone feel like her favorite person. Her legacy is one of love, compassion, and unwavering strength, qualities she instilled in her family and shared with her community. She was a cherished member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Williston, ND, where her faith and fellowship were integral parts of her life. Cheri is survived by her devoted husband, Scott; her beloved sons, Derek (Alyssa Hodenfield) and Austin (Brynlee); her precious grandson, Miles Lee; her caring siblings, Monte (De), Myron (Lynne); and a host of extended family members and dear friends. She is predeceased by her parents, Marlin and Imogene Malnaa, and her step-mom, Alma Jean Malnaa. A celebration of Cheri's life will be held on June 13th, 2026, at 5:00 PM at Grace Montessori Academy, located at 4809 Grand Ave, Billings, MT 59102. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Billings Clinic Cancer Center staff, the Mayo Clinic Team, and all who provided exceptional care and support during Cheri's journey. Special thanks to Alecia with Palliative Care, whose guidance was invaluable. In honor of Cheri's legacy, the family has established the Cheri Anderson Scholarship Fund, ensuring her spirit of generosity and support for education continues to touch lives. Cheri Lee Anderson will be deeply missed, but her love and spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
