It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charlie Wilson Dowdy, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who left this world peacefully on June 8, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on May 16, 1945, in the welcoming town of Bogart, Georgia, Charlie's life was a testament to strength, love, and kindness. Despite facing numerous health challenges, he demonstrated immense courage and resilience, fighting valiantly until the very end. Charlie was the beloved son of the late Charlie and Annie Maude Dowdy. He grew up with a deep appreciation for family values, which he carried into his own family. He graduated from Carver High School in Monroe, Georgia, in 1964, where he made lifelong friendships and began to shape his future. Shortly after, he served his country with honor and distinction in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967, attaining the rank of Sergeant. His time in the military instilled in him a profound sense of duty and camaraderie that he cherished throughout his life. On Christmas Day in 1964, Charlie married the love of his life, Victoria. Together, they shared an extraordinary 61-year marriage filled with laughter, adventures, and unwavering love. They raised two wonderful daughters, Regina Dowdy Hurtt (Perry) and Anne Dowdy Jackson, who inherited their father's warmth and wisdom. Charlie was the proud grandfather to four grandchildren—Steven, Angela, Kaleb, and Kayla—and the doting great-grandfather to Sophia and Vincent Charlie. His family was his pride and joy, and he found immense happiness in their achievements and presence. Charlie had a passion for the outdoors, finding peace in gardening and joy in grilling for family gatherings. His home was always open, a place where everyone felt welcome, thanks to his quick wit, warm smile, and an ever-present joke to lighten the mood. Charlie had the rare gift of making everyone feel valued and respected. His kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him. A service to honor and celebrate Charlie's life will be held on June 17, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home, located at 4347 Flat Shoals Pkwy, Decatur, Georgia 30034. Family, friends, and those touched by Charlie's life are invited to join in remembering this remarkable man who enriched so many lives. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the neighbors, the Blinded Veterans Association, the Carver High School Class of 1964, Visiting Angels, friends, and family for their unwavering support and kindness during this difficult time. In Charlie's own words, "The hard times that you go through build character, making you a much stronger person." His legacy of strength and character will continue to inspire all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, we hold him close within our hearts, guiding us through our lives until we meet again. Charlie Wilson Dowdy will never be forgotten. He remains with us always, in spirit and in love.
