It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Charlie Peterson Jr., who departed this world on July 16, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on November 30, 1944, in the vibrant city of Birmingham, Alabama, Charlie was the cherished son of Charlie Peterson Sr. and Ocie B. Peterson, who preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by his dear siblings Tyler and Esperanza. Charlie served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Navy from February 28, 1962, to March 25, 1966, embodying the values of dedication and commitment that would define his life. After his military service, Charlie found joy and fulfillment in his work as a forklift driver, a career he dedicated himself to for numerous years until his retirement in 2012. A man of many passions, Charlie delighted in the simple and joyous moments life had to offer. He was a lover of old movies and dancing, always ready to capture memories through his love of picture-taking. Family gatherings were a highlight of his life, where his culinary skills shone brightly, bringing loved ones together over delicious meals. He held a special fondness for car shows and old cars, a testament to his appreciation for timeless beauty and craftsmanship. Charlie was a sweet and passionate man, whose kind and generous heart touched the lives of all who knew him. His beautiful smile and great sense of humor were his trademarks, endearing him to family and friends alike. He was deeply loved and admired by all, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. He is survived by his beloved family, including Karen Ponce, Charlie Peterson III, Joseph Peterson, Consuella Peterson, Aristotle Peterson, Christopher Peterson, Agnes Peterson/Read, Arian Peterson, Trina Haugh, and Sondra Krahel. His legacy also lives on through a host of relatives and friends. Though Charlie did not have grandchildren, he cherished and was cherished by a wide circle of family and friends who were like family to him. In honor of Charlie's generous spirit, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, whose mission to save children's lives resonated deeply with him. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who assisted in caring for Charlie, sent prayers, and loved him unconditionally. Your support and compassion have been a source of comfort during this difficult time. As we say goodbye to Charlie Peterson Jr., we hold close the memories of his laughter, kindness, and the love he shared so freely. His spirit will forever be a guiding light to those who were lucky enough to know him.
