Born on June 29, 1939, in Sidon, Mississippi, Charlie was the beloved son of Roosevelt and Melvina Hampton. He was a beacon of strength and love for his family and community throughout his 87 years of life.
Charlie was a devoted father to his children, Barbara Hampton, Victor Hampton, Tina Barton, Michelle Hampton, Jermaine Hampton, and Nicole Hampton. He also leaves behind his cherished companion of 20 years, Alice Swayze, who shared in his joys and adventures. His family was his pride and joy, and he found immense happiness in the presence of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing and sharing stories that will be passed down for generations.
A man who found his greatest peace on the water, Charlie was an avid fisherman whose love for the sport was only rivaled by his passion for the Cleveland Browns. He was a loyal fan who never missed a game, cheering on his team with unwavering enthusiasm.
Charlie's work as a longshoreman spanned an impressive 40 years, where he dedicated himself to the docks with hard work and commitment. His colleagues remember him as a man of integrity and dedication, qualities that he carried into every aspect of his life.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Donald and Charles Hampton, and his enduring spirit is a testament to the strength and love instilled in him by his parents, Roosevelt and Melvina Hampton. The legacy of love that Charlie leaves behind will continue to light the way for his family and friends.
A service to celebrate Charlie's life will be held on August 22, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the House Of Day. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Charlie's memory, as a testament to his generous and caring spirit.
