CHARLES WENDELL WILLIAMS

Charles Wendell Williams, a man of unwavering dedication, compassion, and intellect, passed away peacefully at home with his family on August 22, 2026. Born on June 15, 1950, in Philadelphia, PA, Charles lived a life rich with love, learning, and leadership. Charles was the beloved son of the late Charles Bristow Williams and Martha J. Williams, and he is now reunited with them and his 1st cousin, William Eaton (Irene Eaton), who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Janice Williams, with whom he shared marriage since 1975, when they wed in Philadelphia. Together, they raised two wonderful sons, Charles Williams Jr. (Gloria Brown) and Stephen Jason Williams (Brittany Byars Williams), who were the pride and joy of his life. A cherished grandfather, Charles adored his grandchildren: Demarcus Williams, Daniel Williams, Brooklyn Williams, Alexis Williams, Makala Ford, Zachary Jordan, and Dominic Jordan. He also leaves behind his step-sister, Irenda Geneva Gates, and a host of cousins who held a special place in his heart, including William Eaton (Sandra Eaton), Dietra Taylor (Drew Taylor), Kimala Ross (Maurice Ross), Carolyn Williams Crawford (Craig Crawford), and Cheryl Williams Morton (Jeff Morton). His life was further enriched by the love and companionship of his close friends Carolyn Russell, Isaac Shaw, Gene Vaughn and Roseyln Vaughn, Trevis Black, Judge Tony Duckett, and Vonyae Jordan, Luciana Lee, Kenneth Lee, Velma Dixon, Samuel Curtis, Marco Herrera, Anna Gonzales other relatives and friends. Charles's life was marked by a lifelong dedication to education and a commitment to excellence. His formative years in private schooling instilled in him the values of hard work and intellectual curiosity. In 1968, Charles had the unique opportunity to perform with the band as a clarinetist at the White House for President Richard Nixon. He graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy with an Charles's life was marked by a lifelong dedication to education and a commitment to excellence. In 1968, Charles had the unique opportunity to perform with the band as a clarinetist at the White House for President Richard Nixon. He graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy with an Associate of Arts (AA) degree and achieving the rank of Master Sergeant among a corps of 1,000 cadets. His academic journey continued at Ursinus College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts in 1970, followed by a master's degree in political science from Princeton University in 1972.  After Receiving his master's degree Charles spent two years at James E. Beasley Law School at Temple University After completing law school in 1974, he decide not to take the Bar examination and start his working career. Professionally, Charles's dedication was evident in his distinguished career. He began at Travelers Insurance Company as an underwriter, where his talents were soon recognized, leading him to a 20-year tenure as an executive at Cigna Insurance Company. Known for his sharp analytical mind, integrity, and fair leadership, Charles left an indelible impact on all who worked with him. Outside of his professional achievements, Charles found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was a member of the Second Church of Christ Holiness in Houston, TX, where he nurtured his spiritual life. A passionate lover of food, he delighted in sharing meals with his family and friends. Charles was a lifelong learner, always eager to share his knowledge and help others grow. You treated him with the dignity and grace he deserved, and for that, our hearts are forever full.
