It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Shoemaker, a beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and friend, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 18, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on May 12, 1942, in Kingston, NY, Charles lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to both his family and community. Charles served his country with honor as a member of the United States Air Force for four years, a commitment that instilled in him values of discipline and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life. Following his military service, Charles embarked on a 30-year career as a computer programmer with PEPco, where he was known not only for his technical expertise but also for his warm and approachable nature. A man of many talents, Charles had a passion for square dancing and was a cherished square dance caller, bringing joy to many through his lively and spirited calls. His love for golf was equally fervent, and he spent countless weekends on the greens, sharing stories and laughter with his golfing buddies. Charles was a man who thrived in social settings; his outgoing personality and genuine interest in others made him a beloved figure in every room he entered. His ability to connect with people was a testament to his generous spirit and kind heart. Charles is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Anne Shoemaker, with whom he shared a lifetime of cherished memories. Together, they raised their son, James Shoemaker, who carries forward his father's legacy of kindness and integrity. Charles is also survived by his stepdaughter, Kathy Lutman, and one treasured grandchild, who brought immense joy to his life. A service to celebrate Charles's remarkable life will be held on July 25, 2026, at Found & Sons Funeral Chapels, located at 10719 Courthouse Rd, Fredericksburg, VA. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Charles are warmly invited to gather in remembrance and thanksgiving for his life. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Spring Arbor Assisted Living and the Visiting Angels for their compassionate and loving care during Charles's final years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charles's memory to these organizations, reflecting the family's appreciation for their support. Charles Shoemaker's legacy of love, laughter, and service will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to be part of his extraordinary journey.
