Charles Richard
December 3, 1932 — October 5, 2026
In loving memory of Charles Richard Bruns, who peacefully departed this world on October 5, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family in hospice care. Born on December 3, 1932, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Charles was the cherished son of Ralph Bruns and Florence Peterson. He was predeceased by his siblings, Robert Bruns and Marion Webb, and leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Charles was the devoted husband to Joan, with whom he shared a remarkable 72 years of marriage. Their union, celebrated on April 27, was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family, including their son Bruce (Kimberly) daughters Carole (Dale)Aurilio, and Elaine (William) Fitzgerald), six grandchildren—Paul (Lilian), Lindsay, Christian (Julie), Matthew, Scott (Jenny), and Tyler—and three great-grandchildren, Luna, Koi, and Isabella. Charles also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who were dear to him.
Throughout his career, Charles worked diligently alongside Joan's father in the construction and real estate business before transitioning to a successful career in insurance with Lutheran Brotherhood and later name change Thrivrant. In 1994, he retired to Florida, where he continued to enrich the lives of those around him.
Charles was a man of faith and community, actively participating in his church through various committees and service activities. His generous spirit was further exemplified by his volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity, where he served as a lead builder. Charles's benevolent nature often found him painting a neighbor's house or lending a hand wherever needed.
Family was at the heart of Charles's life. He found immense joy in spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's activities, always with a smile on his face. His unique personality left an indelible mark on everyone he met, and his memory will continue to bring smiles and stories for years to come.
A private memorial service honoring Charles's life will be held on October 24, 2026, where family and friends will gather to celebrate his extraordinary journey. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Visiting Nurse Association Hospice 920 37th Place #101 Vero Beach, Florida 32960 whose compassionate care made Charles's final days peaceful.
