With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Charles Randolph Haskins Jr., a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, on May 18, 2026. Charlie, as he was affectionately known, departed this world in the comfort of his home after a brief illness, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family.
Born on November 11, 1948, in the vibrant city of Richmond, Charles was the cherished son of the late Charles Randolph Haskins Sr. and Helen Harris Haskins. He shared a unique bond with his twin brother, the late Charlie Rodman Haskins, a connection that was a source of profound joy throughout his life.
Charles's early years were spent in Chesterfield, where he attended public schools and graduated with the class of 1960 from Caver High School. His passion for music was evident from a young age, leading him to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in music, which he earned with honors from Virginia Union University in 1980. His love for music and dedication to the arts was a cornerstone of his life, influencing many and inspiring those around him.
In addition to his academic achievements, Charles served his country with distinction as a member of the US Army Reserves. His time in the service was marked by dedication and commitment, reflecting the deep sense of responsibility that he carried throughout his life.
Charles was a man of quiet strength and unwavering integrity, known for his gentle spirit and warm heart. He was a confidant and a source of wisdom to his surviving brother, Thomas Orlando Haskins, and sister, Armeta Haskins Robinson. He was a loving uncle to his nephews, Rodman A. Haskins, Anthony O. Haskins, Hiram D. Haskins, Tyrell K. Robinson, and his niece, Michelle Y. Haskins, who will all dearly miss his guidance and unwavering support.
Although Charles did not have children of his own, he was a paternal figure to many, offering his time, talent, and love generously to those around him. His legacy is woven into the lives of his family and friends, who will remember him for his kindness, his infectious laughter, and his profound ability to make each person feel special.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and friends who provided unwavering support to Charles in his final days. Their compassion and dedication were a testament to the love that surrounded him and a comfort in our shared sorrow.
A celebration of Charles's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and the beautiful life he lived. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to a charity that supports music education, ensuring that his passion for the arts continues to inspire future generations.
