Charles Phillip Slaughter
June 16, 1932 — February 28, 2026
In loving memory of Charles Phillip Slaughter, affectionately known as Phil, who peacefully departed this world in his sleep on February 28, 2026, at the age of 93. Phil was born on June 16, 1932, in the serene town of Winchester, Virginia, to the late Samuel Allen Slaughter and Frances Finfrock Slaughter. He was a cherished son, a devoted brother to Katherine, Lucille, and his twin brother, Samuel Allen Slaughter, Jr., a beloved husband to Mildred R. Slaughter, and a loving father, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth that will continue to inspire.
Phil's early years in Winchester were filled with the nurturing presence of his family. After graduating from Henley High School, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the Air Force, where he served as a radio operator on various missions. Phil had a keen eye for detail, often humorously pointing out inaccuracies in aviation scenes in movies. After his honorable discharge, he pursued higher education, obtaining a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnical Institution, setting the stage for a lifetime of accomplishments.
In 1955, Phil and Mildred embarked on a beautiful journey together, marrying in a double ceremony with his twin brother Al and his bride Arlene in Woodstock, Virginia. Their union was a testament to love and commitment, and together they nurtured a family filled with joy and laughter.
Phil's professional journey began at Potomac Edison Power Company in Front Royal, Virginia. His dedication and expertise led him to a promotion at West Penn Power Systems in Masontown, Pennsylvania, in 1968. He later accepted an executive role at Allegheny Power Systems, where he earned numerous awards and accolades before retiring at the age of 62. His career was marked by integrity and a remarkable ability to solve complex problems.
A man of diverse interests, Phil was an avid golfer, a passionate fisherman, and a boating enthusiast. His love for snow skiing and scuba diving kept him young at heart. Phil's adventurous spirit led him to travel extensively, exploring both domestic and international destinations. He cherished the times spent on the road with June, touring the United States in their RV, and visiting family and friends along the way.
Phil's love for music was evident in his skillful playing of the trumpet and guitar, a passion he maintained throughout his life. He enjoyed dancing, visiting wineries and breweries, and sharing these experiences with his children and friends. His quick wit and sometimes wicked sense of humor endeared him to all who knew him. Loyal to a fault, Phil was always ready to lend a helping hand, a trait that his children, Susan Raymond, Cheryl Slaughter, and Christopher Slaughter, hold dear.
A talented handyman, Phil could fix just about anything, a skill he lovingly passed on to his children. His legacy of loyalty, humor, and kindness will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Phil was an active member of various organizations, including the FoF in Pennsylvania and the Moose Lodge in Bradenton, Florida, where he made lasting friendships and contributed to his community.
A memorial service to honor Phil's life will be held on June 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset View Memorial Garden, 2677 Farvell Road, Woodstock, Virginia. Phil's children wish to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported their family during this time and helped in honoring their father.
Though he has left this world, Phil's spirit will live on in the hearts of his children, his cherished memories, and the lives he touched. May he rest in peace, forever remembered with love and admiration.
