Charles Norman Wood

July 30, 1944 — March 4, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Charles Norman Wood, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, on March 4, 2026. Charles, affectionately known as "Chuck," was born on July 30, 1944, in Battle Creek, Michigan, to Norman and Helen Benford Wood. He left this world peacefully at the VA Hospice Center, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family. Chuck's formative years were spent in Battle Creek, where he graduated from Lakeview High School in 1958. With a spirit of adventure and a deep sense of duty, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1962. During his service, which spanned six years, Chuck was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, a testament to his dedication and bravery in the line of duty. Following his honorable discharge in 1968, Chuck embarked on a new chapter with a career at Clark Equipment, from which he eventually retired. His colleagues remember him as a man of quiet strength and integrity, whose calm demeanor and quick wit brought out the best in those around him. In 1978, Chuck married his beloved Kathy, and together they created a life filled with love and laughter. They affectionately called each other "Sundance" and "Sunshine," a testament to the joy they found in each other's company. Though Kathy has since passed, their love story remains a source of inspiration for all who knew them. A gifted carpenter, Chuck spent countless hours crafting beautiful pieces of work that now serve as cherished reminders of his talent and creativity. His love for NASCAR was well-known, and race weekends were often spent with family and friends, sharing in the thrill of the sport he so enjoyed. Chuck's patience and quick wit were hallmarks of his character, endearing him to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He possessed an uncanny ability to bring calm to any storm, offering wise words and a steady hand to those in need. Chuck was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Helen Wood, his beloved wife Kathy, and his sister Norma Joyce Adams. He leaves behind his devoted son, Corey Wood, and two treasured grandchildren, who will carry forward his legacy of love and kindness. In accordance with Chuck's wishes, a private ceremony will be held to honor his life. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the VA medical center for their compassionate care and support during Chuck's final days. Though the physical presence of Charles Norman Wood will be deeply missed, the memories of his gentle spirit, unwavering patience, and boundless love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. As we say goodbye, we hold tightly to the lessons he imparted and the love he freely gave, knowing that he now rests in peace, reunited with those he loved so dearly.
