Charles Michael Buchal

Charles Michael Buchal, born on January 15, 1947, in the serene town of Liberty, New York, embarked on his final journey on September 8, 2026. He peacefully passed away in his sleep after a valiant battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Charles lived a life marked by love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to his family, friends, and community. The son of Made and John Buchal, Charles grew up with a strong sense of family values and a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life. His early years were filled with the warmth and laughter that later defined his own family. In 1965, he graduated from Liberty High School, embarking on a path of lifelong learning and service. He earned his master's degree from SUNY New Paltz in 1970, setting the stage for a distinguished career in education. Charles's professional life was dedicated to nurturing minds and fostering growth. He served as the Education Director at Mt. McGregor Correctional Facility, where his leadership and compassion touched countless lives. Even after retirement, Charles continued to share his love for education by grading tests for Pearson and umpiring high school baseball games, a role that combined his love for sports with his commitment to community service. In his personal life, Charles was blessed with a profound and enduring love. On December 28, 1968, he married his high school sweetheart, Theresa Mary Buchal. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter. Though Theresa predeceased him, their bond remained an enduring testament to their shared life. Charles is survived by his beloved children, Derek Robert Buchal of Norman, Oklahoma, and Jennifer Lynn Buchal of Lake George, New York. He also leaves behind his cherished grandsons, Dustin Dunkley and Charles C. Buchal, along with many treasured nieces and nephews who will forever hold his memory close. Charles's life was rich with interests and passions. He found joy in the camaraderie of his Tuesday night bowling league in Lake George and delighted in attending plays and trivia nights. A good-natured and kind soul, Charles was respected by all who knew him, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to call him a friend. In addition to his family and friends, Charles was dedicated to the national Correctional Education Association, where he held numerous positions, contributing his expertise and passion for education. As a family, we find comfort in knowing that Charles's spirit will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him. While his presence will be deeply missed, his legacy of kindness, love, and dedication will never be forgotten. A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Charles's life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Charles's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting his lifelong commitment to giving back to the community. Charles Michael Buchal will forever remain in our hearts, a guiding light whose memory will continue to inspire us all.
