It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Joseph Hogarty, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this life peacefully at his home on April 4, 2026, after a courageous battle with a number of ailments. Born on May 26, 1941, in Philadelphia, PA, Charlie, as he was affectionately known, lived a life marked by warmth, generosity, and a relentless spirit of innovation.
Charlie was the cherished son of Charles and Margaret (nee Bulman) Hogarty. He was predeceased by his loving parents, his dear sister Peg Hogarty, and his beloved wife, Marie Claire Hogarty, with whom he shared 55 magnificent years. Together, Charlie and Marie's journey took them from the East Coast to the vibrant city of Chicago, eventually settling in the sunny embrace of California. Their shared passion for travel led them across the globe, creating memories that their family will cherish forever.
Charlie led a distinguished career, beginning his professional journey at the tender age of 18 with Keystone. His unwavering dedication and visionary leadership saw him rise through the ranks to ultimately become CEO. Under his stewardship, Keystone revolutionized the auto body repair industry by manufacturing and importing affordable, quality replacement parts, forever altering the landscape of auto repair in the U.S. Charlie's tenure as CEO was marked by his successful endeavor to take the company public, an achievement that positively impacted countless lives.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Charlie's heart lay with his family and his passion for cars. He was a gifted craftsman, transforming a rusted 1957 Thunderbird convertible into a gleaming testament to his skill and dedication. Charlie's love for the open road was contagious, as he took his family on countless road trips throughout the 1970s and 80s. In retirement, he and Marie continued their travels, visiting nearly every state and exploring the wonders of many countries.
Charlie was a man of extraordinary character, a dealmaker at heart with an innate talent for business. His inquisitive nature and genuine interest in others meant that no interaction was too small. Whether chatting with the local mechanic or the hotel manager, Charlie found joy in understanding the intricacies of businesses and the people behind them. His generosity knew no bounds, ensuring that his family was always supported, educated, and well-equipped for life’s journeys.
Charlie leaves behind a legacy of love and achievement, survived by his daughter Pamela (Courtenay) Key, his son Charles Joseph Hogarty, his sister Maryann Hogarty, and his cherished grandchildren Darin (Jennifer) Hogarty, Chelsea Hogarty, Charles Joseph (Aliyah) Key, and Stuart Key. His two great-grandchildren will grow up hearing stories of their great-grandfather’s remarkable life and the enduring impact he had on all who knew him.
