With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Charles James McDuffie Jr., who departed this world on April 25, 2026, at the age of 68. Born on January 7, 1958, in Foley, Alabama, Charles, affectionately known as "Bubba" to his dearest, lived a life rich in love, wisdom, and compassion. Charles was the cherished son of the late Charles James McDuffie Sr. and Sylvia Geraldine Coor McDuffie. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Stephanie Sue McDuffie, his beloved sisters Sybil Vernell McDuffie and Tammy Lynette McDuffie, and his parents. The legacy he leaves behind is one of kindness, humor, and unwavering faith. Charles' life was a testament to the power of knowledge and the joy of exploration. Despite facing reading disabilities, he was a voracious learner, delving deep into the Bible, where he found profound insights and solace. His fascination with his Creek Indian heritage spoke to his unyielding curiosity and respect for his roots. His unique blend of wisdom and humor, often displayed in playful exchanges, will be sorely missed by all who knew him. "Old person," as he was fondly greeted by his son-in-law, always had a witty comeback, returning the greeting with a chuckle as "Young man."Meanwhile, can you just imagine him just dancing down those streets of gold in Heaven? Just remembering all the people that has already passed waiting to greet him as he arrived. Charles is survived by a loving family who will forever cherish his memory. His daughter, Donna Marie Bakermattson, and her husband, Luke Paul Mattson, along with his son, Jonathan McDuffie, will continue to honor his legacy. His twin sister, Charlotte Jane Tillman, and sisters Gerrie Luanne Beritiech and Rachael Cognevich (Bobby) of Irvington, Alabama, Paula Bailey of Pensacola, Florida, Robert Pruitt of Pensacola, and David Steadman of New Hampshire mourn his passing. Also remembering him are Sarah (Rich Richardson) and a dear friend and sister, Kathleen Workman of Irvington, Alabama. His Aunt Pam Ryals and Uncle Royce, who stood by him with love, will miss him dearly. The joy of Charles' life was magnified by his grandchildren: Angela and Harold Torrance, Theresa Friske, Ronnie Baker Mattson, Dannah Calansanan, Lukas Baker Mattson, and Kendra Oldaker, as well as his great-grandchildren: Donovan, Dawson, Aurora, John, Kizzy, and Everett. With eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, his legacy of love and warmth will continue to flourish. A service to celebrate Charles' life will be held on June 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Oddfellows Cemetery, located at 6056 Irvington Bayou La Batre Hwy, Irvington, Alabama 36544. Friends and family are invited to join in remembrance of a man whose life was an inspiration. In his memory, we share his heartfelt message: "Don't cry for me, I will be okay. Heaven is my home now, and this is where I'll stay. Don't cry for me, I'm where I belong. I want you to be happy and try to stay strong. Don't cry for me, it was just my time, but I will see you someday on the other side. Don't cry for me, I am not alone, the angels are with me to welcome me home. Don't cry for me, I have no fear, all of my pain is gone, and Jesus took my fears." May we find comfort in the thought of Charles dancing joyfully in Heaven, free from pain and embraced by the love of those who went before him. His spirit will continue to guide and inspire us until we meet again.
