Charles J. Townsend, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, nephew and friend, passed away at his home on July 26, 2026, at the age of 69. Born on December 3, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan, Charles was the cherished son of JC Townsend and Levander Thompson, who preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by his sister Norma Townsend, sister Markitta Townsend, and brother Michael Townsend. Charles was a cornerstone of the Detroit community. He spent 33 dedicated years working at Chrysler Corporation before retiring. Known for his incredible work ethic, Charles was a man who valued hard work and commitment. He was a natural problem solver, always seeking to understand and help resolve any issue that crossed ones path. His wisdom and ability to fix things were renowned among friends and family alike. An avid fisherman, Charles found peace and joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as fishing, gardening, and yard work. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and took great pride in nurturing his garden. Those who knew him well will remember his warm smile and the stories and wisdom he generously shared. Charles is survived by his devoted children: Diana Cole, Terrence Ruffin, Ebony Ruffin, and Sir Charles Townsend. He leaves behind his companion, Sylvia Ingram, and stepchildren, Janetka Ingram, Carrell Hoover, and Cilia Purifoy. Charles was blessed with an abundance of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his siblings: Peggy Townsend, Shirleeta Ruffin, Sharon Townsend, Rosalyn Townsend, William Townsend, and Terrence Townsend. His special Aunt A. Townsend, whom he loved and adored, a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends will deeply miss him. To honor Charles's life, a service will be held on August 15, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Swanson Funeral Home, located at 806 E Grand Blvd, Detroit, MI 48207. The family invites all who knew Charles to join them for this celebration of his life. Following the service, the family will pay tribute to Charles with a final ride through his beloved hometown, a fitting farewell for a man who was so deeply rooted in his community. Charles J. Townsend's legacy of kindness, wisdom, and generosity will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege to know him.
