Born on January 24, 1943, in Port St. Lucie, Florida, Charles lived a life filled with love, service, and cherished memories, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the honor of knowing him. Charles faithfully served his country in the United States Navy for four years, a period that instilled in him a deep sense of duty and camaraderie. Following his military service, he dedicated 40 years to Whitehall Borough as a member of the road crew, where he was both respected and adored by his colleagues. His retirement in 2005 was celebrated with a memorable party, reflecting the strong bonds and enduring friendships he had cultivated. In 1980, Charles married the love of his life, Suzanne. Their union was a beautiful tapestry of love, travel, and shared adventures. Together, they hosted numerous parties in Pittsburgh, often in support of charitable causes, and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Charles was a devoted husband, tenderly caring for Suzanne during her illness with the same love and patience that defined him throughout his life. Upon moving to Florida, Charles became an integral member of the Cascades community. His friendly demeanor and infectious smile made him a beloved figure, and he served as a volunteer sheriff for St. Lucie County, contributing to parking enforcement for a decade. Charles took pride in driving the police car around Cascades, a role that perfectly matched his helpful and outgoing nature. Charles was a man of many interests, including a love for science fiction, sports like football, baseball, and golf, and an active involvement in the American Legion. He enjoyed collecting coins and found tranquility in tending to his koi and goldfish pond, a testament to his nurturing spirit. His beloved fish will surely miss their Poppy. A devoted pet parent, Charles shared a special bond with Shanaracquel, the family's cherished dog, who brought joy and companionship into his life. He found pleasure in cooking, gardening, and entertaining, always welcoming others with open arms and a generous heart. Though Charles faced health challenges in his later years, including several falls and a difficult final period, his life was a testament to love, resilience, and the power of human connection. He leaves behind his adored wife, Suzanne, along with family and countless friends who will forever cherish his sweet nature, radiant smile, and the joy he brought into their lives. Charles Henry Brandau was a truly good man, loved and appreciated by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, humor, and unwavering friendship will never be forgotten.
