In Loving Memory

Charles Evans
September 23, 1962 — May 6, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Charles Evans, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world peacefully at his home on May 6, 2026, after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Born on September 23, 1962, in the close-knit community of Prattville, Charles was a beacon of love and strength to all who knew him.
Charles was the cherished son of the late Willie Earl and Tina Evans, who instilled in him the values of kindness and resilience. He was predeceased by his loving brother, Timothy Evans, and his dear sisters, Gerdine Smith and Tommie Sue Tucker, as well as his great-niece, Margot Samson, who now embrace him in the arms of eternity.
A dedicated student, Charles graduated from Laurel High School in 1978, where he nurtured lifelong friendships and a passion for service. Answering the call of duty, he served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1980 to 1986, a testament to his unwavering dedication to his country.
On May 16, 1992, in the heart of Alabama, Charles married the love of his life, Elaine Evans. Together, they shared 34 wonderful years, a journey filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Their union was blessed with four beautiful daughters: Paula Williams, Sherry Spivey, Tiffany Kelley, and Shae Kelley, each carrying forward his legacy of compassion and integrity.
Charles was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy into his life. He delighted in their laughter, their stories, and their dreams, always offering a listening ear and an open heart.
A man of deep faith and community spirit, Charles found solace and purpose within the walls of Great Works Baptist Church, where he will be honored on May 13, 2026, at 1:00 PM. The service will be held at 456 Booth Street, Prattville, AL, where family and friends will gather to celebrate a life well-lived.
As we bid farewell to a remarkable man, the family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at UAB Hospital for their extraordinary care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to honor Charles's memory do so by committing acts of kindness in his name, for he believed that love and kindness were the greatest gifts one could offer.
"Forever in our hearts," Charles's spirit will continue to guide us, as we hold him close in memory and in love. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the warmth of those he cherished and who cherished him in return.
