With heavy hearts and fond memories, we announce the passing of Charles E. Martin Sr., a devoted family man, cherished friend, and dedicated worker. Born on February 24, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, Charles lived a life full of love, laughter, and resilience until his peaceful passing on April 5, 2026, at Angela's Hospice.
Charles was the beloved son of the late Clarence and Rose Martin. The youngest of a large family, his early years were marked by the lively company of his brothers William, John, Clarence Jr., Morris, Matthew, and Ronald, all of whom preceded him in death, leaving behind a legacy of strength and solidarity that Charles carried forward.
A product of the Detroit Public School System, Charles was known for his keen intellect and inquisitive nature. He found his calling at the Chrysler Corporation, where he dedicated 33 years as a hardworking and respected assembly worker. Charles retired in 1998, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and commitment that inspired many of his colleagues.
Charles's personal life was rich with the joys and challenges of family. He first married Corrine Carr, and together they welcomed four wonderful children: Derrick, Kimmoly (Scottie), Charmaine, and the late Charles E. Martin Jr. Charles's journey of love continued with marriages to Betty, Patricia, and Jacqueline, each chapter adding more love and laughter to his life.
A man who cherished connections, Charles leaves behind his dear children Derrick, Kimmoly (Scottie), and Charmaine, along with his loving brothers Robert and Daniel. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Derrick Jr., Lashel Crawford (Gregory), Shaquala, Nakeita, Charlesa, Marcellis, Kimmoly, Charmel, Sierra, and Derricka, and a vibrant family tree that includes 20 great-grandchildren. His lifelong friend, Alvin Stephens, stands testament to a friendship that weathered the decades with unwavering loyalty.
Charles was a man of simple pleasures, who found immense joy in traveling, playing cards, and the warmth of family gatherings. His laughter was a familiar sound at the table, where stories were shared, hands were played, and bonds were strengthened.
