It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles E. Chapman, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, who left this world peacefully on June 18, 2026, at the age of 68. Charles was born on December 10, 1957, in Waukegan, Illinois, to William and Ruth Chapman, who have since predeceased him, along with his cherished grandparents. Charles, affectionately known as Charlie to those who loved him, spent his life in Zion and attending Zion-Benton High School. It was here that he began to cultivate his lifelong passion for mechanics—a passion that would drive his career and become the cornerstone of his interactions with family and friends. A skilled mechanic, Charles dedicated numerous years to his trade, becoming a trusted name in the community for his expertise and the care he showed in his work. Whether it was fixing a neighbor's car or ensuring his nieces and nephews were driving safely, Charles approached each task with unparalleled dedication and a genuine desire to help those around him. Charles's love of NASCAR was well-known among his family and friends. He could often be found on weekends watching the races, cheering on his favorite drivers with enthusiasm and a twinkle in his eye. His love for the sport was infectious, drawing others into conversations filled with laughter and friendly debates. Perhaps what defined Charles most was his remarkable sense of humor and quick wit. He had an uncanny ability to bring smiles and laughter to any room he entered, using humor to connect with people in the most profound ways. This gift not only endeared him to his family but also built lasting friendships throughout his life. Charles is survived by his dear sisters, Marie (Jeff) Herman of Zion and Michelle Copen of Michigan, who will forever cherish his memory. His legacy lives on in the many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews who adored him. Charles was a guiding light and a source of endless encouragement to each of them, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. In honor of Charles's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate his life. As we gather to remember a man who brought joy and laughter into our lives, we are reminded of the simple yet profound ways he touched us all. Though Charles E. Chapman may have left this world, his spirit will remain with us, carried forward by the countless memories and the enduring love that will forever bind his family and friends. As we say our farewells, we take comfort in knowing that his laughter will echo in our hearts always.
