It is with heavy hearts and a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of Charles “Chink” Gillis, Jr. Whom departed this life peacefully on July 17, 2026, in Salisbury, North Carolina, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 24, 1965, in Washington, D.C. Charles was a cherished son of Lillian Tate-Gillis and the late Charles Gillis, Sr. Charles was raised in New Jersey where he was educated. He answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Army. This is where he developed a deep sense of duty and camaraderie that stayed with him throughout his life. Afterwards, he later migrated Maryland and made his home in North Carolina. As a dedicated family man, Charles nurtured and raised three wonderful children with their mother Tara. Lailani Fontanez, Charles III (Zeke) and Isys Gillis. Charles was also a proud grandfather, to his precious granddaughter, Skye (Zeke), who brought immense joy to his heart. Charles leaves to mourn his siblings :Jerome Sr.(Jackie), Carolyn, Bennie Sr.(Christine), John and Donnie whom (Proceeded him in death). His nephews, Marvin(Mookie) Jerome Jr. (JJ) Tyrone (TJ) Khayree (Chachi) and Bennie Jr.(BJ). His nieces: Latoya, Nicole, Nikki, Crishon, Shantise, (Kyre’), Kaniyyah, Eboni, Miracle, Rydeesha and Eliyana. He leaves behind his Godmother and Aunt Sophia Tate -Vroom, two uncles Clarence and David Gillis and a host of other relatives and friends that were very dear to him. Charles was a man of many talents and interests, and his involvement in the community extended beyond his family and work. His generous spirit and kind nature left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. The family wishes are to express their deepest gratitude to everyone for their compassionate care and to the many friends and family members who offered support through calls, texts and messages during this difficult time. While he is no longer with us, Charles Chink Gillis, Jr.'s legacy of love, service, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched. May he rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him. His favorite saying when you say I love you. He would say “ and I You”. Service to celebrate Charles's life will be held on August 29, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Johnson & Sons Funeral Home 206 Fourth Street, High Point, NC 27260 Celebration of Life following services: Private In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to care of his children in honor of Charles's memory.
