It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles Burnite, a beloved husband, father, and friend, who departed this world on April 11, 2026, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born on August 22, 1949, in Delaware, Charles was a beacon of strength and kindness throughout his 76 years of life.
Charles was the cherished son of the late Charles Albert Burnite Sr. and Frances Elizabeth Burnite. He was predeceased by his dear sister, Geraldine Largay, and his loyal canine companions Bowser, Charlie, and Sophie, who brought immense joy to his life.
Left to honor his memory are his devoted wife, Sherril Burnite, with whom he shared 39 beautiful years of marriage, and his loving sister, Anita Baines. Charles's legacy continues through his 4 children Chuck, Teresa, Missy, and Kimberly. 11 grandchildren Michael, Kristen, John, Malcolm, Abigail, Charles, Caleb, Megan, Andrew, Dominic, and Phoenix and 7 great-grandchildren Jaina, Colton, Olivia, Ayden, Jordan, Tallulah, and Delilah who will forever carry his spirit in their hearts.
Charles's life was marked by his unwavering dedication and service to others. After graduating from Robinson High School, he answered the call of duty and served his country with distinction in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1968 to 1972. During his military career, he received numerous accolades, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, and the Rifle Marksman Badge. His service was a testament to his bravery and commitment to his fellow citizens.
Upon returning home, Charles chose to continue his service to the community as a Pasco County Sheriff Deputy, a role he embraced with integrity and dedication until his retirement in 2009. His commitment to public safety and justice touched countless lives and left a lasting impact on the community he so dearly loved.
Beyond his professional achievements, Charles was a man of simple joys and profound love. He cherished every moment spent with Sherril and their family, finding solace and happiness in their shared laughter and love. He was an avid fan of NASCAR and football, often gathering with friends and family to cheer on his favorite teams. Music was a constant companion in his life, providing a soundtrack to his many adventures and quiet moments alike.
Charles was renowned for his amazing soul, a gentle giant who touched the lives of many with his warm smile and generous heart. His presence was a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him, and his legacy of kindness and love will endure in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
A service to celebrate Charles's remarkable life will be held on April 24, 2026, at 4:00 PM at Grace Family Church, located at 22920 SR 54, Lutz, FL 33549. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Charles are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well-lived and a man deeply loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Charles's honor to a charity of your choice, reflecting his lifelong commitment to service and compassion.
